The Big Cat Courier

Your Source for Barnard News, Right Meow!

Good Afternoon Barnard Families,

This week's issue of The Big Cat Courier is being sent out a day early because of a couple time sensitive pieces of information. The Summer Program Survey's deadline is tomorrow, as is the deadline to purchase tickets for the PTO's Prize Calendar Raffle! Please see the appropriate sections below for more information.

With the weather due to clear up tomorrow, get outside and have some fun with the kids this weekend!

Progress Reports

Trimester 3 Progress Reports are being printed and are anticipated to go home with students at the end of the day Monday. Unlike the standards-based Report Cards, the information in our Progress Reports comes mainly in the form of teacher narratives describing student work habits and progress across the curriculum. The final Report Card of the 2020-2021 school year will go home with students on the last in-person school day in June.

EPS Summer Program Survey

Another survey? Yes, and this one is an important one!

To help address any shortfalls in learning that occurred due to the pandemic over the past year, State and Federal funds are being sent to school districts in order to help create summer learning programs. A survey to families was sent out by the school district earlier this week. This survey is intended to help us gather the information we'll need to create Enfield's summer program. If you haven't already, please fill out the survey by tomorrow's deadline.

If you are worried that the combination of remote learning, asynchronous learning days, and fewer in-person learning days on campus have had an impact on your child's social, emotional, and/or academic progress, seriously consider extending the your child's in-person learning year by having them attend! While our approach to teaching and learning will have to be adjusted next year in order to meet the needs of our students after such a different kind of school year, the addition of a general education learning program this summer will go a long way in closing any pandemic related learning gaps.

The HBS Playscapes

A rotating recess schedule with rotating locations across campus went into effect this past Monday. The rotation of locations, is intended to help keep our classrooms cohorted and gives our students the opportunity to use both playscapes every seven school day cycle. Monday and Tuesday went swimmingly and although today's weather impacted the majority of classrooms, we anticipate outdoor recess weather for tomorrow.

Three Schools, Many Books, One Community

Like so many other EPS and Barnard traditions this year, our One Book, Three Schools, One Community event looks different this year. Because of the planning lead time needed for this kind of event and the ever evolving health and safety guidelines, we have rebranded this popular traditions to make it work for this wild, crazy school year. With the month of May, we will be kicking off our Three Schools, Many Books, One Community event! A calendar of events will be coming out to you shortly so stay tuned for more information our plans for the coming month.
