Tickets on Sale for our Gala 2/16/19
Welcome to AIS!
We still have a big goal - thanks for supporting our Annual Fund for school needs this New Year!
Bonne Année ! Happy New Year! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
We hope that all members of our AIS community had a fun, safe, and relaxing winter break. We are excited to kick of 2019 with all of you and look forward to a second semester full of learning, service, and fun! We have many busy months ahead of us and are always happy to accept contributions and support from our caring AIS community. Please keep an eye out on this semester’s Friday Flashes for the many ways that you can contribute to our fantastic school!
Welcome to our New Families
We are so excited to welcome 4 new students and their families to AIS this week! Please join me in welcoming our new Pasgar (PS2), Garnier (GS1) , and Sait (GS1) families and welcoming an Elattar AIS sibling (PS2) as well. Our teachers and admin had a wonderful time learning with the newest members of our student body. Of course, all of our maternelle students had tons of fun playing with their new friends!
Playground Improvements
The members of our board, faculty, administration, and – most of all – student body are incredibly thankful for all of the playground work that the AIS Parent-Teacher Organization undertook during the winter break! Some of the new, engaging games on the front and side playgrounds include hula hoops, 4-square, hopscotch, outdoor chalkboards, mancala, checkers, tic-tac-toe, and more. We are all particularly thankful to the Turman, Morgan, Rheault-Booth, Cooper, and Cook Families who donated their time and labor to this endeavor, to Ms. Emily Hopkins for her coordination, and to all of the faculty members for their ideas and feedback to this project. Merci à tous!
Visit from Bruno Bonhoure and Khaï-Dong Luong
Today, as part of their social studies unit on Medieval Europe, our AIS Middle School students and teachers engaged in a morning of learning with Mr. Bruno Bonhoure and Mr. Khaï-Dong Luong, performers of medieval music from the Théâtre d’Aurillac in the Auvergne region of France. Bruno and Khaï-Dong performed extracts from Dante’s Inferno and engaged our Middle School students as performers as well! Their explanation and illustration of Dante’s Inferno brought to life one of the most important literary works of the 14th century. Merci Bruno et Khaï-Dong!
FIRST LEGO League Presentation
AIS’s inaugural FIRST LEGO League team – comprised of intrepid, enthusiastic, and creative 5e students – will soon be presenting their project to a panel of FIRST LEGO League judges at an international contest being hosted in Round Rock. In preparation for this, AIS’s team dubbed L’AustIn Space presented their project to a panel of mock judges who provided words of encouragement and feedback. We were so proud of our students’ creativity, thoughtfulness, level of analysis, and above all, integration of international-mindedness in their project. We look forward to their successful performance at the FIRST LEGO League competition on Saturday, January 19th!
Visitor from Frankfurt International School
Part of our school’s strategic plan related to awareness and growth calls for AIS “to be a center for international education by contributing to the international drive for the development of future global citizens.” In line with this, today we were pleased to welcome Ms. Stacy Irvin, a visiting teacher from Frankfurt International School. Ms. Irvin spent the day visiting our campus and our classes to learn more about AIS and our Seamless Curriculum. Though there are many positive elements to our school, upon her departure, she was the most complimentary of the happy community atmosphere that we have developed at AIS.
Spring Afterschool Activities begin next week!
Our Spring afterschool activities will begin on Monday, 1/7. Be on the lookout for an email from Jhino with any class cancellations or contact him with any further questions.

Student Council Toy & Clothing Drive thru Jan. 18
Our AIS Student Council is hosting a Toy and Clothing Drive for The Settlement Home for Children, here in Austin. Items collected will be sold at the Garage and Estate Sale at the Palmer Events Center to raise money for their programs, which support children who have experienced various hardships. Feel free to donate any of the following items: new or gently used clothing, socks, shoes, dolls/figurines, blocks or legos, stuffed animals, board games, toy cars/trucks, science kits, or educational toys. Please be sure to wash any used clothing, cloth toys, or stuffed animals, and place loose pieces to games or toys in a closed box or bag.
We ask that you refrain from donating any of the following items: broken toys, torn/worn clothing, food items, toy guns or toy weapons, scary toys, toys requiring batteries, electronic toys, other electronics such as phones, radios, etc., or movies/video games.
