WHAT IS THE FAFSA & WHY COMPLETE IT?
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Who should complete the FAFSA? Students enrolling in college in the Fall of 2021 should complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA with their parents/guardians as soon as possible.
Why complete the FAFSA? By completing the FAFSA, students may be eligible to receive federal and/or state grant money (“free” money for college that does not need to be paid back) and loan money (money that does need to be paid back) for college.
What do I need to complete the FAFSA?
- Student Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number
- Parents' social security numbers (student can file FAFSA even if parent does not have a social security number)
- Parents' 2019 tax returns and W-2's and other records of income earned
- Students' 2019 tax returns and W-2's (if filed)
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- Names of colleges to which student is applying
