HMS Bearcat Bulletin

January 2018

A Note from Ms. Buschmann

With the new year comes the chance to reflect on accomplishments and shortcomings from the previous year and get a fresh start on accomplishing your goals in the new year. Looking back at the previous year at Hermann Middle School, we are immensely proud of our students and all they have accomplished and challenge them to set their goals high for our upcoming assessments, athletic seasons, and community events.

Your children shared their academic goals with you at Parent-Teacher-Student conferences. Did they achieve them? What are the next steps? With the fresh start of a new semester, now is a great time to revisit those goals and set new ones.

Student of the Month

For the month of December, we recognized and celebrated students who exhibit the character trait of Empathy. When people are able to put themselves into the shoes of others, it changes their actions, words, and thoughts for the better. It is the underlying skill for being able to show sympathy, compassion, kindness, and it cultivates a "Be the Change" attitude. Here are two videos that we showed during our student of the month assembly. I hope you will watch them and discuss them with your students or watch them together again. The messages and lessons are powerful ones.

School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS or PBIS)

The PBIS leadership team continues to develop lessons and plans for the launch of School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions next school year. This will include a “PBIS Boot Camp” for kids at the beginning of the year to incorporate many lessons as well as some fun centered around expectations and teaching behaviors. They are also reviewing daily procedures to make sure we are being as consistent and proactive as possible.

Board of Education Appreciation

The community of Hermann benefits each day from the hours upon hours of time donated to our school district by members of our local Board of Education. We depend upon them to guide our schools and make tough decisions that impact the everyday operations of our school. We take the month of January to recognize these contributions and thank them for their time. Thank you, members of the Gasconade County R-1 Board of Education.

Movie Night at The Showboat
