Trusting the Process: The Wonder and Delight of Flight…
It’s that time of year where we have our feet in two places; on the safety of the branch and taking that leap of faith into new adventures.
Teachers and staff are celebrating a year of relationships, learning, and growth with their current students and at the exact same time, preparing and engaging in transitions for next year’s flock. Parents are still trying to muster the energy to make lunches, remember water bottles, push through morning get ups after longer evenings, and at the exact same time, engage in discussions and plans for next year. Students are often excited about new beginnings and at the exact same time, a little hesitant to leave familiar surroundings and routines. It is a time of many wonderings; Will my teacher next year notice that I like a quiet space to think sometimes? Will my friend be with me in my new class? Will my child’s teacher know the strategies that worked well this year? Will my new students need many interventions? Will I be enough? Will my child be okay?
For all humans, transitions can be a time filled with many wonderings, this is natural and wonderful. Recently in our Catholic faith, we celebrated the Ascension of Christ where Jesus departed from His earthly dwelling and took His seat at the right hand of God. I imagine like many of us, the Apostles looked up to Heaven and wondered. Like us, I am sure there were moments of uncertainty and worry, and then, that insecurity and tension was transformed into a peaceful certainty of God that floods our hearts with hope, love, and joy.
As we step off those branches, may we have faith in the process and embrace the wonder and delight of flight.
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm

Our Garden Tower is GROWING! Time for a Taste Test!
Hello St John Families! Our Young Citizens team has been lovingly caring for our Tower Garden since early spring and it’s time to harvest! Caring for our Tower Garden has been such an amazing learning experience for our Young Citizen Leadership team, and we want to extend that learning to the rest of the school! That is why we are preparing a tasting for each grade on Wednesday, June 16th. Students will be offered a guided tasting of one of the vegetables grown in our tower garden (lettuce, mesclun mix, kale, or rainbow chard). We know from research that children (and adults!) are more likely to like a new food with repeat exposures, so this is a fun, whole class experience that can get hesitant eaters out of their comfort zone. If you would NOT like your child to participate in this tasting, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know by Tuesday, June 15th.
Transitions: New teams shared Friday, June 18 for K-3 Students
Many professional considerations are taking into account when determining optimal learning environments for all students next year. It is important that there are several transitions for our kids. We are very mindful right now of how important these transitions will be to help students have closure for this year and begin a new year with new teams. At Saint John XXIII, staff work diligently every day to build connections and foster relationships with ALL students, regardless of class, they are all "our kids" and this makes transitioning so much easier. Every child is a part of community and not just one homeroom. Students next year will continue to be part of grade level teams, loved and supported by all SJ staff.
On Friday, June 18, your child's "home base" with be shared via PowerSchool. What is important to know is that while your child will have a home base teacher placement, they will be a part of team, which will also include our Student Support team.
Students' Home Base placement for the 2020-2021 school year will be available in the Powerschool Parent Portal. *This is only applicable to students in K-3 at Saint John XXIII (this does not apply to students coming from other schools or grade fours heading to SJPII).
To see your child's "homebase" placement for next year:
- Login into PowerSchool Parent Portal
- Click on child's name tab at the top of the page
- Click on "Additional Resources" in the left hand column
- Click on "Next Year Placements"
- Repeat for each child.
On Friday, home base teachers will be sharing a video or a picture of your child's teacher and/or grade level team so they can place faces to names.
Thank-you for your continued trust in all we do!
