(the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015)
Smokers are at the #1 risk of developing lung cancer. The disease is most common in smokers who start when they are young, and how many they smoke a day and how much tar is in the cigarette. Not smoking is a good way to avoid developing lung cancer.
Lung cancer is a vigorous sickness. With no medical attention, ‘limited stage’ (the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015) patients can live as little as three months. Extensive patients, as little as six weeks. Luckily, small celled lung cancer responds to chemo and radiation better than any other lung cancer. ’70-90% have a major response to the treatment’(the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015).
How is it Diagnosed
After a screening procedure, if lung cancer seems to be present, a doctor will examine a piece of lung tissue, looking for anything cancerous. This can also determine what kind of cancer.
