What is Lung Cancer?

Cells in the lungs start to grow out of control, these cells can grow in one or both lungs. As these large cancerous cells start to grow they don't carry what normal cells carry, they carry unhealthy lung tissue causing tumors to form.

Small Celled Lung Cancer

Small Celled Lung Cancer is the cancer type in which the tissue cells of the lungs multiply uncontrollably and create tumors

Non Small Celled Lung Cancer

the type of cell in lung cancer is called the non small celled lung cancer. these small cells create tumor while the cell grows are an uncontrollable rate. This cancer is more likely to kill you.

Causes of Cancer

High risk of lung cancer is mainly caused by cigarette smokers. even after years of quitting smokers are still at a risk of getting the disease.

  • quitting smoking immediately lowers the risk
  • 1/2 of the risk can disappear in the "smoking free" year

Symtoms and Impacts

Small Cell Lung Cancer travels quickly while it spreads through the lungs

. The symptoms occur depending on the whereabouts of the tumor,

and whether nor not the cancer is solely in the lungs or has begun to

spread to other places in the body. Symptoms for people with small cell lung cancer are

· a persistent cough

· chest pain

· shortness of breath and wheezing

· persistent hoarseness

· fatigue and loss of appetite

(the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015)

Smokers are at the #1 risk of developing lung cancer. The disease is most common in smokers who start when they are young, and how many they smoke a day and how much tar is in the cigarette. Not smoking is a good way to avoid developing lung cancer.

Lung cancer is a vigorous sickness. With no medical attention, ‘limited stage’ (the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015) patients can live as little as three months. Extensive patients, as little as six weeks. Luckily, small celled lung cancer responds to chemo and radiation better than any other lung cancer. ’70-90% have a major response to the treatment’(the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 2015).

How is it Diagnosed

After a screening procedure, if lung cancer seems to be present, a doctor will examine a piece of lung tissue, looking for anything cancerous. This can also determine what kind of cancer.

Prevalence of Cancer

The prevalence of cancer is determined by how many people have ever had cancer. 3% of all men and 3% out of all women diagnosed with lung cancer. 36,930 more women are diagnosed then men.

Cellular and Molecular Level of Lung Cancer

On the molecular and cellular level of lung cancer are based on the difference between the molecular pathways of smokers and non smokers. this disease takes the path causing inflammation that alerts the cells to lung cancerous tests.

Treatments and Cures

Depending on the type of lung cancer you have leads to certain treatments. non small cell lung cancer is most deadly and common. It has more ways of treatment, while the uncommon small cell lung cancer has less treatments. Both small and non small cancer responds well to radiation and chemo. Treatments are 100% dependent on the type of cancer and the spreading rate.
