What you need to know.

Wind

Wind is the sideways movement of air. The air always moves from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. Wind is caused by difference in air pressure in the earths atmosphere.

Local Winds

Local Winds are winds that blow over a short distance. Local winds are caused by unequal heating of the earths surface. A sea breeze is a type of local wind. A sea breeze is a blows from the ocean. Facts about Trade Winds

Trade winds are winds blowing steadily toward the equator from the northeast or southeast. Trade winds are stronger over oceans than over land. It's average speed is about 5 to 6 kilometers per hour.

Prevailing Easterlies

Prevailing westerlies are winds that move towards the pole and appear to curve east. They are located between 30 and 60 degrees latitude. In the Northern Hemisphere, prevailing westerlies cause weather movement.

Jet Streams

A jet stream is fast flowing air found at about 12 km above earths surface. It is under the tropopause. They cause significant difference in air temperature. Because of the earths rotation the jet streams west to east.
