Anyone who pays taxes can get hit by this so basically anyone can get hit by this so you need to keep your tax ID safe from others. So never tell anyone how to get to your tax ID.
Don't fall for false IRS Emails as well.
Why would someone do this to you?
People do this so they can have your tax refund. So they are basically robbing you of money you could of had. For a lot of people tax refund's are really important.
How to find out someone doing this
- More than one tax return was filed using your SSN.
- You owe additional tax, refund offset or have had collection actions taken against you for a year you did not file a tax return.
- IRS records indicate you received wages or other income from an employer for whom you did not work.
Why someone would fall for this
People might fall for this because the scammer could have a ad pop-up in someones Email and it could say they can win big or some thing like that.
