Davis/Martin Peek at the Week
October 3 - 7
Dear Parents,
Can you believe the end of the first quarter is only a week and a half away? First quarter ends on Wednesday, October 12th. Students will need to have their 5 chapter books read and tested on by that date. Be on the lookout for parent-teacher conference information in the next week. They will be held on Thursday, October 20th.
School pictures are this Thursday, October 6th. Don't forget to turn in your envelopes if you plan on ordering a package.
We just finished our first read aloud, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. The story kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Students were chomping at the bits to see how it all ended! With that being said, we are starting our next read aloud this week. It is called Pax written by Sara Pennypacker and we will be teaming up with a few other fifth grade classes across the globe to discuss and share our thinking. This book is part of a project called the Global Read Aloud.
This week, we will be starting literature circles in Reading. Students will work in small groups to read a realistic fiction book and discuss/analyze the text. Each student will receive their own copy of the book, as well as a reading schedule of when certain pages need to be read by. It is very important that pages be read by the date specified, so that everyone can participate in the group discussion. Mrs. Martin is so excited to share these books with everyone as they came from a recently funded donorschoose.org project!
