News and Happenings
I am happy to announce a new addition to our library! We now have what is called a 'makerspace'.
In our makerspace, I have activities daily ranging from the students building with legos at our lego table to playing with electronic circuits at our LittleBits bar! The highlight of our makerspace is our new 3-d printer. PLEASE encourage your students to come to the library and visit our makerspace on their lunch or during their free periods. I also welcome you to bring your classes down to take part in various activities related to the themes on this site: www.worlds-of-making-nmhs.com
Although we are waiting on more seating and accessories to be delivered, there are some beanbag chairs in there, which I hope will provide a comfortable reading area for the students.
Please encourage your students to visit the library and take advantage of this space. I'd love classes to make use of this space in any way that you see fit. Just send me an email to reserve the space, and it will be yours!
Smartboard and Chromebooks
Two other new additions to our library is a Smartboard and a cart of Chromebooks. These tools were added so that you are able to bring your classes to the library and have available the technology you might need in order to conduct your lessons or to collaborate with me.
Earn a Digital Badge!
Thank you to those staff members who have already joined our professional learning platform. If you have not registered and need some help, click here. If you are registered and want some help getting started, click here. Just a reminder that what you submit to me to earn your badge can be a web link, a document or even just some text describing how you have used the tool.
We now have badges for:
Many staff members have asked if you can earn badges for tools you already know how to use, the answer is YES! This is a way to make what you know KNOWN and recognized through earning a badge that will showcase your knowledge.
Other staff members have asked if our students can join the site, and my answer to that is YES! Feel free to use this site to help you 'flip' your classroom. If you know you want to use a tool with students, they can watch the screencast at home in preparation for your lessons. In addition, I am available to come into your classrooms and teach these tools to your students to better prepare them for your lessons and activities.
