Black History Month: Black History Month is a fundamental part of our nation’s tradition, in which we recognize important historical events, honorable leaders and steps towards community well-being.Teaching children about the contributions of African-Americans will help them understand how our country has been positively impacted through stories of academic excellence, artistic genius, scientific discovery, and political contributions. This year, Black History Month’s national theme emphasizes the importance of Black Health and Wellness. Throughout February, the Public Library champions Black history, and have published their top picks of books about Black Joy. This list is updated year round with a variety of books to choose from. There are also Black History facts for each day in February listed in the County of San Mateo page containing pivotal moments in Black History. Outside of school, the San Mateo County Event Center is also sponsoring the Domini Hoskins Black History Museum & Learning Center's Black History Month exhibit for 2022.
