Homecoming Food Village
October 11-12, 2013
The WE LEAD Annual Events team and WVWC Alumni office are teaming up again to host a "food village" during West Virginia Wesleyan's 2013 Homecoming celebrations.
Did you know that 4,330 people in Upshur County live in poverty? That's 19.34% of the population. Did you know that 22% of Upshur County's population is in poor health? Help us change these statistics and help those in need!
Donations of nonperishable items will be collected on Friday, October 11th from 1 to 5 PM and Saturday, October 12th from 9 AM to 1 PM. The Food Village tent will be located on the Rockefeller Plaza (outside of the security office). All donated food will be used to construct a model of Wesley Chapel then donated to local food pantries.
Food items needed:
-peanut butter and jelly
-canned beans
-canned soups
-canned veggies
-canned fruit
-stove top stuffing
-instant mashed potatoes
-canned sweet potatoes
Cash or check donations will be accepted and used to purchase food donations. You can drop off any nonperishable food donations to the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development before Friday at 1 pm.

- Food Village is this weekend! (see above)
- The Social Justice Team is hosting World Food Day on Tuesday, October 15th from 4:30-7 pm in the French A. See Dining Center. Stop by to learn more about how you can be part of the solution to make sure everyone has enough food on our planet! Meals will feature local items and will be served at the "Show Cookery" and throughout the Dining Center.
- Mark Your Calendars! The WE LEAD Annual Events team is gearing up for "Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods," an annual Wesleyan Service tradition. Student volunteers will go 'trick or treating' in the community on Halloween (October 31st). Times and locations to be announced.
- The Children & Youth Team is hosting an on-campus "Trick-or-Treat" event for local families on November 1st at 5:30 pm in the Chapel Oval. If you or your organization would like to offer treats or fun activities for local youth, contact Tracey Gregory.

Requests from the Community
- Volunteers are needed for a mass mailing/labeling for WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), located in the WIC office next to Sam's Pizza. Two to three volunteers are needed to help prepare a mailing in mid- to late-October. Times and dates are flexible. E-mail Katie Loudin for more information.
- Up to 20 students are needed for the Buckhannon Academy Elementary School Fall Festival on Saturday, October 26th from 12-3 pm. Student volunteers can help in shifts if they are unable to stay for the duration of the event. Organizers need assistance with the costume contest, bounce house, pumpkin drop, and more fun fall festival activities. E-mail Katie Loudin for more information.
- Volunteers are needed to help with Stockert Youth Center's Drill Team. The program directors are looking for eager students to teach children. If you can help or have experience with baton/poms/rifles/flags, please contact Briana Blake.
- Volunteers are needed for the Tennerton Elementary School Carnival. Groups and organizations can work together to provide a fun and safe atmosphere for children in the community from 11 am-2 pm on Saturday October 26th. Students will be responsible for helping to run the games that are already set up. Interested volunteers should e-mail Cemantha Woody or call her at 304-472-9497.
- Four student volunteers are also needed for face painting both at the Carnival (see #4) but also for another event at the school on October 31st from 1-2:30 pm. Interested volunteers should e-mail Cemantha Woody or call her at 304-472-9497.
