WELCOME to Fall 2015!
Grades Have Been Updated!
Grades were updated on Monday, Aug. 17 for all assignments from the first marking period. If you didn't turn in an assignment by the "Orange Thursday" deadline, you were given a zero for the missing assignment but had until Wednesday midnight to submit it for late credit.
Parent portals are updated twice weekly and student gradebooks are updated daily.

Weekly Adobe Synchronous Sessions: Mondays
We have weekly synchronous sessions every week on Mondays. See your course homepage for the exact time and the link to attend. These lessons will focus on grammar lessons, writing, and the content of our course. Students should attend the sessions. If you are not able to attend the live session, please view the recording. Remember that you may earn extra points for attending the live sessions or watching the recordings and submitting the survey provided in the Adobe lesson by the Thursday following the Monday Adobe. Since this is for extra credit, there are no extensions.
Bring your questions! This is a time for you to meet with me live.
18 week Students: Check Your Grades!
Since we had a deadline due date on Thursday, Aug. 13, you need to go into your gradebook and check your grades. Zeroes have been added for assignments that were not submitted by the deadline. If you think an error has been made, please email me!
How to be Successful in a GAVS class
Here is some advice from seasoned GAVS students.
1. Keep up with your assignment schedule. If you turn in your work each day, you won't get behind. Turning in assignments late will hurt your grade. Why not just turn in the assignments on time in the first place?
2. Log in every day. Check your email and check the comments the teacher makes on your assignments. They give you help so look for it. Check your email because teachers will keep you updated on important information and give you helpful hints for assignments.
3. Check your grades at least once a week. If there is a problem, email your teacher.
4.Teachers want to help you so be sure to ask questions!
5. If your teacher offers extra credit or extra points, do it!
6. Be responsible! You aren't sitting with your teacher and she/he can't remind you in person, so it is your responsibility to do your work on time. Teachers give you assignments at the beginning of the semester so follow the schedule.
7. Go to the Adobe Synchronous Sessions. Teachers will answer your questions and help you do better on the lessons. They even go over information that will be on tests. Why wouldn't you want to go? Some teachers even give extra credit for going.

Five Funny Figures of Speech
One of my favorite aspects of language is word play. Being able to recognize word play in a piece of literature adds more dimension to the meaning of that piece. Read through this short article and then keep an eye open for examples as you read the literature in the content of your course.
