THE ORION GAZETTE
Week of February 25, 2019
THANK YOU TO OUR SSC TEAM
TRANSITION UPDATE
The transition of the Orion Alternative Parent Participation Program to the Gill campus for the 2019-2020 school year is underway. Principal Rivera, myself, District Leaders and Parent Leaders form both school sites will be working together to provide a smooth transition for both the Gill and Orion communities. There is much to be done but thankfully we have time do it! As always, I will keep you all updated on our progress.
Last week, all of our teachers and many of our families had the opportunity to meet Principal Rivera. Principal Rivera is eager to get to know our wonderful community, and she is looking forward to spending more time together in the coming months.
Please note the following important next steps in the transition process:
1) February 28th, the leadership from each site (Principals, SSC Teams and PTO Groups) will begin meeting with school transition facilitators from the San Mateo County Office of Education.
2) In the spring, events will be scheduled for our kiddos and families to visit the Gill campus and have some fun with the Gill community. (Dates and times TBD)
SPRING CONFERENCES
Please sign up for spring conferences this week. Sign ups will be posted on Monday, February 25th @ 2PM. These student led portfolio conferences are a wonderful Orion tradition. These unique conferences allow our Orion Stars to shine brightly as they "present "their learning to their families. The kiddos and their teachers work hard to prepare for these special presentations. Pure pride and joy radiate from all of our kiddos during this week!

URGENT HELP NEEDED!!
GATE REFERRAL PROCESS
RCSD offers a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) pull out program for 4th, 5th & 6th graders
located at Clifford and Hoover Schools. If you would like your child in current grades 3/4/5 tested for GATE this Spring, you can read more information about the GATE program on the Parent Information website.
Parents must complete a permission form for their student to be tested. At the end of the survey, please check that you have seen the "Thank you for your survey" results page. If you do not see this page, then please go back and complete the survey again until you see this page. This confirms you have submitted the permission form accurately.
