LEAD | Dallas ISD
Leader Excellence, Advancement & Development
In Dallas ISD, we believe that great schools are those that provide equity and excellence for ALL students and require strong leaders to do so.
Last year, our newly-formed LEAD department within School Leadership developed and piloted a robust, rigorous principal selection process that includes several phases for those applying for the principalship. This process has allowed us to have more face-to-face interactions with candidates and to accurately evaluate their strengths. Most importantly, this process supports the identification for best-fit candidates for the needs of each individual campus.
Check out the video below for a glimpse into a Principal Candidate's experience.
“It wasn't just an application, but a well-thought-out process designed to highlight the skill sets of each candidate. It was clear to me that not just anyone could be a principal and that I would need to really prove myself throughout this process to be considered for such an important role. I am truly humbled and honored to be part of such a group of incredible leaders here in Dallas.”
--Amber Shields, new principal
Overview of the Process
“More than ever before, I feel I have an accurate idea of who our candidates are and the strengths they bring to the position. Not only does this mean we are better at placing the right candidates in the right schools, but I know where our coaching needs to begin as soon as a principalship begins.”
--Dr. Reyna Sotelo, Executive Director
