Back to School Bearcub Brief
Volume CV--Back to School Edition!
Every CUB stepping up, reaching out and moving forward!
Welcome back, Bearcubs! Can you believe that the 2019-20 school year is almost here? As I sit and write our first staff and community weekly newsletter, I can hardly believe it has been more than two months since our kids walked the halls for the last time in 18-19. We are so excited to see our returning Cubs, and are looking forward to extending a warm welcome to our incoming 6th graders and new students! I want to assure both parents and students that our staff has been hard at work getting ready to meet the needs of each and every CUB, so that our kids are growing into Continuous Learners and Understanding Citizens who are Building Responsibility in themselves and others.
Huggins Highlights
6th grade: 8:51 a.m.- 4:11 p.m.
7th & 8th grade: 8:55 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
Additionally, as we get ready for a great back-to-school start, I want to let you know about a few important upcoming activities and events on campus:
- Monday, August 19th--The First Day of School!--Kleb opens its doors starting at 8:25am on the first day of school. 6th graders will report to the gym and 7th/8th graders report to the cafeteria to pick up their schedules. 6th grade students will be escorted to class by their first period teacher! Note that lunch lines may be longer than normal on the first day as students get acclimated to the lunch routine. All students will have the opportunity to eat lunch whether they purchase a lunch at school or bring their own. Bus assignments will be posted and available for reference throughout the school day.
- Friday, August 30th--Chromebook Distribution Day--Students will receive their Chromebook at the beginning of the day. Make sure you have paid your ADLP fee and signed the agreement form through SchoolCash online (access it here) before Monday, August 26th to ensure your child gets their Chromebook in the first rollout.
- Monday, September 2nd--No School--Labor Day Holiday
- Monday, September 9th--Fall pictures--Details to come home with your child soon!
- Wednesday, September 11th--Kleb Open House--Come meet your child's teacher and celebrate their learning at our Open House! This year we will have a variety of choice sessions starting at 6 pm, including topics such as drug awareness, 1:1 information, how to understand MAP scores and more. Traditional class visits by period will follow! Information sheets will come home with your child the Monday before the event.
Please contact us at 832-249-5500 if you have any questions about any of the above information. I hope you enjoy the last few days of summer vacation...and see you soon, Bearcubs!
Sincerely,

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES FOR 1920
Car rider parents will turn on Lyons School Road from either Louetta Road or Stuebner-Airline. Parents will enter at the north entrance to the Klein High School student parking lot. Look for the sign. Parents will then form two lanes along the curb, up until the sign indicating the stopping point. When your student arrives, a staff member will direct you to exit past the band and to the right so that you can exit through the south exit of the parking lot. If your student will not be immediately ready to be picked up after school, parents will need to park in one of the parking spots to wait for their child. If you do park in a parking spot to wait for your child, use extreme caution when backing out of the parking space. See the image below for an aerial view.
As a reminder, there is no afternoon pickup at the front of the school due to the potential safety issue as traffic backs up onto Louetta. Thank you again for understanding our need to keep our Bearcubs safe.
Don't forget! Returning families register online before school!
Every year, Klein ISD requires parents to update student information (Age, Grade, and Registration-AGR) for each child enrolled. Updating student information regularly is vital to ensure correctness of Guardian information, emergency contacts, phone numbers, etc. This allows the district and campus the ability to respond in a timely and appropriate manner in case of emergency.
Annual Student Information Update will be completed by parents/guardians using their Skyward Family Access account. This replaces the yellow AGR card that was sent home in the First Day packet of information. Annual Student Information Update will be available August 2-August 17, 2018. To complete the registration process, please log into your Skyward Family Access account and select the Annual Student Information Update button. Updates must be completed prior to your student receiving a schedule or teacher assignment.

Back this year--Bearcub Bands!
All staff that support our students--teachers, administrators, custodians, cafeteria workers and even bus drivers--will give students Cub Cards when they catch kids displaying the characteristics from our Cub Matrix. Students can then earn different colored bands and be eligible for all kinds of raffles, drawings and events through Den and lunch!
Parents, if you have a community business and would like to invest in the character of your future workforce by donating items to raffle--or you have an idea of how to celebrate positive character traits--please email me at lhuggins1@kleinisd.net!
From the Student Handbook: Exiting a Pre-AP Course
A student may exit Pre-AP courses at the end of the first semester and must have teacher, parent, and administrator approval. Students and parents should have the benefit of knowing the semester grade before making an exit decision. Students should consider exiting a course at the end of the first semester if they do not maintain at least a "C" average for the semester. Please contact your child's counselor prior to the start of school if you wish to make any Pre-AP course adjustments.
