OCTOBER 2023
Holy Family School
Admin Team Message
Happy October! The beautiful colors, crisp mornings and warm afternoons tell us it is definitely the season of fall! October is a time to reflect on the blessings God has given us in our lives. We had a great start to our school year. September was busy with settling into our new classrooms and making new friends. The sports season began with cross country and soccer. We raised $300.00 for the Terry Fox foundation in the month of September. Thank you for all your contributions and for the families that joined us on our walk.
The start of the year has been wonderful, and the staff and students have already been busy with extracurricular activities. You will see on our calendar that October is full of many exciting activities. Cross country and soccer continue, volleyball will begin soon, World Mental Health Awareness Day, Saskatchewan School Sports Week, Education Week, Fire Prevention Week, and a Family Halloween Dance. Be sure to check your calendar and Edsby for more information as it will be a busy and enjoyable month!
To celebrate Education Week, we will be having a family reading/pajama night on Oct 19th where families can wear their pjs and come read together and participate in other book themed activities. There will be juice, coffee and cookies. During the evening, we will also be having our School Community Council AGM where you can meet the parent representatives on the board. We want as many parents to join us as possible, so we have set up a class competition where the class with the greatest attendance is going to win a prize. We have arranged for some of the U18 AAA Female Sharks to read and have fun with students throughout the evening as well.
We hope you all find time to get out and enjoy the fall weather, connect with family and have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Combres & Mrs. Weber

Special thanks to CAA for generously sponsoring the program and supplying our students with safety vests and equipment.
PARKING
To drop off students in grades 1 to 7, we ask parents to use the parking lot beside the soccer fields for drop off and pick up. This way all students traveling by car can make their way through the field safely to the vehicles.

Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation-Sept. 30
Every year on September 30th, people across Canada wear orange and participate in Orange Shirt Day events to recognize and raise awareness about the history and legacies of the residential school system in Canada. Orange Shirt Day originates from the story of Phyllis Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation. In 1973, on her first day at St. Joseph’s Residential School in Williams Lake, BC, Phyllis’s shiny new orange shirt was stripped from her, never to be seen again.
40 years later, on September 30th, 2013, Phyllis spoke publicly for the first time about her experience, and thus began the Orange Shirt Day movement.
The Canadian government designated September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, beginning in 2021. This responds to Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action 80, which states that the federal government will work with Indigenous people to establish a statutory day to “honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process”.
