Parent Technology Night

Learning with Digital Tools @ NEMS

Parents, mark your calendars!

“How am I supposed to manage this iPad at home?”

“What type of work is my student doing on this iPad, and how is it helping them learn?”

“Where are the materials and resources my student needs to study for their next test?”

“What happened to all that paper?”

If you’ve found yourself asking these or other questions about school this year, then this event is for you!

Help is here!

We are excited to host a parent night dedicated to helping you learn more about how iPads and digital tools are being used with your child in their classrooms, and how these tools can be effectively managed and used at home to support their learning and digital responsibility.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 29th @ 6:30 PM

Why Attend?

To build understanding for how students are learning with iPads in their classrooms, and how parents can manage these devices at home. This event is not a “showcase,” but instead an opportunity for parents to learn practical information that can help them and their child at school and home.

  • Please register to attend the evening. Registering prior to the event allows us to plan for the appropriate room/seating arrangements.

  • Arrive no later than 6:30 pm with your child’s iPad. Some of the sessions have interactive components and you will need the iPad to fully experience the information being presented.
(Note: teachers have been asked that no work be given on the iPad on this date so that parents may use them during this event).

Managing the iPad at Home--Setting Limits & Boundaries

With the infusion of technology devices in schools comes a need for strategies and resources to effectively manage iPads at school and home. This session will provide parents practical ideas for setting limits for appropriate use of the iPads at home.

Canvas--A Parents' Guide

Canvas is the “online learning management system” Noblesville Schools’ students are using in grades 5-12. Think of Canvas as an “electronic classroom” where files, assignments, resources, and activities are kept digitally and accessed by students for learning both during and outside school. This session will introduce parents to the basic features and functions of Canvas so that they understand how it is being used with students

Using Notability

Students are increasingly using electronic resources over traditional textbooks/materials and completing activities and assignments digitally. Parents will continue to notice a decrease in the amount of “paper” coming home. This session will help parents better understand how student work is being done electronically, and what they need to know to be able to access this work.

Class Apps your Students Use

This session will introduce you to the most basic iPad apps being used in classrooms for learning. This is designed to help parents become more familiar with the tools that their students are using on a daily basis for school.
