WM 2nd Grade Curriculum Update
January 2020
Reading and Writing
Reading
In our next reading unit, students will focus on following characters across fiction books while taking note of their likes, dislikes, relationships, troubles, and how their feelings change from start to end. Students will engage in this work as they hold onto longer stories and think about their books in a deeper way. Additionally, second graders will be tackling new and complex vocabulary within their reading
Writing
In our next writing unit, Writing about Reading, students will learn to write about their beloved books as they persuade others to love them as much as they do. As second graders think deeply about characters within their books, they will learn to state clear opinions and support these ideas with evidence.
