Dear Families,
It has been a busy couple of weeks at our school buildings! If you have a third or a fourth grade student at the Freeman-Kennedy School, we hope that you enjoyed meeting your child’s teacher last week and having the opportunity to learn more about the curriculum, special subjects, and classroom procedures during the open house. We are eager to welcome grades 5 and 6 families tonight at the Freeman Kennedy School and all our grade K through grade 2 families tomorrow, Thursday 29th, at the H. Olive Day School. We look forward to these events every year, as is evident by the time and effort that our teachers and administrators put into preparing for these evenings.
Our goal as a district is to create an inclusive, safe and welcoming learning environment for our students. We are driven by the belief that all children are capable of learning and achieving at high levels. Our educators strive to deliver lessons that challenge students, scaffold their experiences to ensure all students are able to engage in the learning and teach our children to think critically. As you visit the classrooms, you will see all the learning that has already taken place in the first couple of weeks.
If you are interested in learning more about our curriculum, the K-6 Curriculum Highlights brochures provide a quick overview of what our areas of focus are for each content area as well as a brief description of the standards that are measured by our report cards. You can find this information on our Norfolk Public School website under the Curriculum Tab (link).
Sincerely,
Victoria Saldana
Director of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction
Bren Bataclan - Artist in Residency - Unveiling!!!
Bren was excited to share a 15 minute unveiling assembly with each of the grade levels on Friday morning to explain the process and to let the students ask lots of questions. The assembly took place in the cafeteria where students could see their ideas shared with Bren come to life. Watch the unveiling here!
Once again a great thank you to Bren for his inspirational art, the Norfolk PTO for funding this exciting experience and to Laura Mellick for bringing it all to the FK!

MA Extends Free School Lunches for 2022-2023!
Massachusetts has extended free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! Even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the household application for next school year, which allows our district to establish eligibility for P-EBT benefits and other school programs.
