Annual Central US Shake Out
SHAKE OUT
On Thursday, October 20, schools are encouraged to participate in the annual Central U.S. ShakeOut earthquake drill. Hundreds of thousands of Missouri students participate each year. Participants will practice the “Drop, Cover, Hold On” technique to protect themselves in the event of an earthquake. Remember you should:
- DROP to your hands and knees
- COVER your head and neck with your hands and arms under a table or desk if you can
- HOLD ON until the shaking stops
Experts say Drop, Cover, Hold On is the best protection from falling debris, which is the most likely cause of injury during an earthquake in developed nations with modern building standards.
To learn more and to register for the event, please visit Shakeout.org/centralus.
A MESSAGE FROM NUTRITION SERVICES-THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY MEAL
In the past, before COVID, the Thanksgiving holiday meal was kind of a big deal. Families and community members would sign up to eat holiday lunch with their children. This often drew very large numbers of people. Although COVID restrictions have been lifted, we will not be able to promote the holiday lunch as a time for families to come in and eat with their children. The reason for this is because of supply chain issues and lack of staff. We will serve the traditional holiday meal but will treat the day as a normal lunch day.
