Laurel Springs School Update

Welcoming you BACK to SCHOOL!

Big picture

Dear Laurel Springs Families,

I wanted to touch base just one more time before our school year officially kicks off on September 8th. Our school building has been transformed into a safer space to promote social distancing and hand hygiene. Our amazing teachers are poised and prepared to work with their students again, no matter if they are hybrid or full remote. I could not be more excited for this year to start and very much look forward to our partnership in education as we return back to Laurel Springs School. If you need anything, I am a phone call away.

Thank you!

Mr. Mahlman

Principal

Full Remote Students

FULL REMOTE

If you have chosen to start the year FULLY REMOTE (meaning your student will be learning strictly from home) you have been contacted by your full remote teacher who will provide your instruction on the days you were scheduled to be in person. If you have questions about your Full Remote Student's Schedule, please contact your full remote teacher or call the office and we will put you in contact with your full remote teacher.

You will operate on your remote days exactly as you would have normally. This will keep all of our students consistent with pacing, allowing for differentiation.

PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO PICK UP ANY ADDITIONAL LEARNING MATERIALS FOR YOUR FULL REMOTE STUDENT, BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 8TH.

Google Meet Guidelines/ Expectations

The guidelines outlined below MUST be followed when students are on Google Meet meetings with their teachers. They allow for a better learning experience, and promote healthy habits for our students. Students who do not adhere to the guidelines will lose participation points for that particular class/assignment.
Big picture
1. Be on time and ready to learn

2. Make sure you dress appropriately-as you would for school.

3. Be prepared.

4. Make sure your camera is turned on.

5. Find a quiet space to work.

6. Use the "Raise your hand" tool to speak.

7. Make sure your mic is muted.

8. No playing with toys during your meeting.

9. No eating during the meeting.

Face Coverings

When in-person, all students MUST wear a face covering as per our Governor unless you have a note from your family physician stating otherwise. Face shields are good for added safety but do not count as a face covering/mask. A mask will be provided for each child, but it is a good idea to purchase more to use throughout the school year.

Extensions

In an effort to improve our remote learning we have added extensions to our Google Meet experience. There is a feature to raise your hand and to comment through an emoji. There is another feature that allows teachers to split their screens in present mode that will allow them to still see their students while presenting. We have also added an attendance tracker that logs how long you are in each Google Meet for. This will allow us to hold our students accountable for attending their online learning and in turn, provide greater usability and an overall better educational experience.

Lunches

All students are eligible for free lunches as per NJ State Guidelines. If you would like to take advantage of free lunches you must first email Mrs. Sharon Isard at SISARD@laurelspringschool.org . After you have signed up, you will pick up your lunches for 5 days starting on September 15th. You MUST notify Mrs. Isard by September 8th to be eligible for the September 15th pick up.

Lunches will be picked up at the back gym doors between 1-4 PM on September 15th and each Tuesday following. The food will be boxed and will need to be warmed/prepared. As per the state, this program is approved through December but is subject to change/extension.

Birthday Celebration Treats

Given our current situation, there will not be any birthday treats given out in school. We will of course celebrate the day with the birthday boy or girl, but NOTHING should be sent in to school at this time.

Entrances/Exits

At Laurel Springs School we are utilizing every entrance to our building to help get our students to and from school each day safely, while limiting proximity and promoting social distancing. Your entrance is listed in the table below. Mrs. Bertolino's students will go directly to her classroom back door. At 8:20 we will begin taking temperatures and allowing students in at their designated entrance. Each entrance will be equipped with 2 staff members to greet students each morning and dismiss them each day. We have identified spots that are 6 feet apart to stand on, both in and outside of the school when waiting. We will stagger dismissal to limit the amount of interaction in the hallways. If you are picking your student up, parents in grades K-6 should be at school by 12:20. All students will be dismissed by 12:30. All entrances/exits will be labeled so that you know exactly where to go. Students should be wearing a face covering/mask when they arrive to school and also when they are exiting.

Early Dismissal/Late Arrival

If you are picking up your child early or bringing them to school late, you must call the office ahead of time and utilize the PK entrance. No parents will be entering the building and the PK entrance provides an overhang to shield our parents and students from any inclement weather. A student pick up/sign out form will be found in the book borrowing box for you to fill out. Your student will be escorted to the door where we will dismiss them to you and take the form to file.

If your student is coming in late, you will need to call the office to let us know and bring them to the PK door for drop off and a temperature check.
