Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 22nd June 2018

Success on the Sports Field

Big picture

Our annual sports day took place on Thursday and saw 240 children compete to win the summer sports trophy. Children showed skill, endeavour, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. The weather was superb as was the tremendous support from parents, grandparents and friends. A wonderful afternoon was topped off with ice creams sold by the 'Friends of the School'. Well done everyone for your efforts but especially Dragons who clinched the cup from Tigers.

Early Years Sports

It was fantastic to be joined by so many relatives on Thursday morning to cheer on children from the Nursery and Reception classes. The children had a super time and displayed so many skills (including a variety of ways to balance an egg on a spoon). Thank you to Mrs Binks and Mrs Powell for organising a lovely morning.

Adios Amigos

The children from our Spanish partner school continued their time with us this week. They joined our Year 6 class on a visit to the Forbidden Corner (above) and enjoyed the climbing wall (below). Their visit ended with a big celebration on Tuesday evening. Year 6 children and their families joined our visitors for a barbecue cooked by Mr Dudman, having survived that, they were presented with gifts before returning home. We look forward to continuing our partnership next year with another reciprocal visit.

Reach for the Sky

All of our Years 2 to 6 children had a good go at scrambling to the top of a very high climbing wall set up in our car park on Tuesday. We were very proud of everyone, from those who overcame their fears to others who rushed up like mountain goats!

Celebrating Refugee Week

Members of our Cathedral Club, kindly prepared and led by Mrs Denney, attended a special service in the Choir of the Cathedral on Wednesday. They were joined by small groups of pupils from the other primary schools in Ripon. Each school led a different aspect of the service. They reminded us all to be thankful for everything we have and to help and welcome people who are not as fortunate.

Please help us make Oscar's even better!

Can you believe Oscar is almost a year old? Our friendly crocodile is looking good on it! As we prepare for the year ahead, and especially for a full two weeks in the summer holidays, we would really appreciate some feedback. Our main aim is to make sure our children enjoy coming to Oscar's, but we also need to try our best to meet parents' childcare needs (as far as we are able). Whether you use our childcare club or not, please would you complete the very short survey below to help us with our planning? Many thanks in advance.

Sun Safety

With glorious weather forecast for the week ahead, here is a timely reminder that we do our best to follow procedures aimed at keeping all the children safe in the sun. Please could you help us by putting on sunscreen at home, encouraging your child to wear a hat when it's sunny, and by sending them in with a water bottle. If you could name these items that would be a great help!

'Forest Friends Summer Fair' - Saturday 23rd June

Thank you so much for all the help we've received so far, we're incredibly grateful. Also, we couldn't run the fair without all the volunteers getting stuck in on the day itself, so huge thanks in advance.

We're looking forward to seeing you all at school tomorrow!

Bag2School: Clear out your old clothes and more. Charity bags and information will be sent out next week. Collection on Thursday 5th July 9am.

Disco Dancing: Our last disco of the school year will be on Friday 6th July, more details to follow.

End of Year Social: Details to be confirmed, but we'd like to invite all parents to join us for an end of year social gathering (possibly in a pub beer garden!).
