Multicultural Day committee chairs needed

Multicultural Day is in jeopardy of not happening this coming fall. Multicultural Day, which is usually held in November, is an amazing event that brings various cultures from around the world into the classrooms for the students to learn about with hands on experiences. We need 3-4 creative minds that would be interested in taking over the committee for this event. You will have the freedom to put your own spin on it if you so wish. Curious to learn more or interested in volunteering please contact president@madisonschoolpta.org

Volunteer for a leadership role

Are you ready to step into a leadership role? There are committees/clubs that currently are in need of a chair for the 2019-2020 school year. Please consider chairing one of these important PTA committees/clubs: Hospitality, Math Club, Room Parent Coordinator, and Battle and Jr. Battle of the Books. We are also looking for 1-2 people to shadow the current Explore More Day committee chairs this coming school year to then take over for the 2020-2021 school year. Please contact president@madisonschoolpta.org if you are interested in any of the positions. If you are willing to serve as a committee/club chair but are unsure of what would be a good fit, let us know, we'll be happy to discuss the various roles with you.

Thank you Explore More Day volunteers

Explore More Day was a huge success because of the 100+ volunteers made up of parents and Madison staff that helped our students explore something new this year.

Thanks to Denise Krohn, Jessica Neri and Lisa Thomas for planning the Kindergarten program this year, and Erin Bloodworth and Michele Cechini for planning the first grade program. Thank you to the Hospitality committee for offering our volunteers breakfast to start Explore More Day off right. In addition, thank you to Rachel Bailey for planning a delicious lunch for all our volunteers. A special thanks to Jersey Mike's for providing food at a discount for our event.

This was an amazing day that would not have been possible without all of our volunteers and our partnerships with local businesses.

Lastly, thank you to the Explore More Day committee co-chairs: Rachel Bailey, Stephanie Brown, Jen Denson and Amy Fiorato.

As a final note, the Madison PTA is seeking new co-chairs for next year’s Explore More Day. If you are interested or would like to learn more about the role please email president@madisonschoolpta.org.

Thank you Yearbook committee

A sincere thank you to this year's Yearbook committee: Michelle Clousing, Dawn Draus, Heather Graf, Megan Savitt, Melissa Simon and Vandana Sharma. Also, thank you to all the parents who shared their photos on TreeRing. The greater variety of pictures, the better the finished product! Looking forward to the next school year, we are in desperate need of volunteers to help with this fun committee. You can choose your level of commitment, whether it be taking pictures of special events, creating pages with TreeRing, or helping with orders, every bit of help is greatly appreciated. Please email Megan at yearbook@madisonschoolpta.org with any questions.

If you ordered a yearbook, it will be delivered to your child by the teacher on June 11, the last day of school. This spreadsheet lists all orders placed as of May 28. If you have not ordered a yearbook yet and wish to do so, please contact Dawn at yearbook@madisonschoolpta.org as there is a very limited supply of extra copies for purchase. After those copies are sold, you can still order a yearbook through TreeRing, a shipping fee will apply in addition to the $17 cost. Please use this link to place an order.

Order 2019-2020 School Supplies

Are you already dreading the school supply rush in August? Do you hate the thought of running all over town to find the right school supplies? Let the PTA help you. The PTA is now selling school supply kits for next year. This is offered as a convenience for parents, not as a PTA fundraiser.

All Madison students should have brought home a school supply order form. If you did not receive one, you can print one out from the Madison PTA website. Paper orders are due by June 7, while online orders can be made through June 12. Please note, sales tax will be added to all online orders.

All families are encouraged to order online at www.carlsonschoolkits.com/madison-elementary-school/; however, paper orders will also be accepted. School supply kits will be delivered to your child's classroom on August 19. If you have any questions, please email Kathryn Medanic at schoolsupplies@madisonschoolpta.org.

Thank you LLC volunteers

Thank you to the Library Learning Center volunteers this year and to Kathryn Medanic, the LLC volunteer coordinator. The library volunteer program has always been an important aspect of Madison’s LLC program. Volunteers shelve book, check books in and out, read stories, and complete the many tasks involved to make the library run smoothly. Volunteers also allow Mrs. Graham the opportunity to work with classes on research projects and other activities. With the district’s reduction of library aides at the elementary level, we especially need volunteers next year to continue providing services for our students. Volunteers are needed either mornings (9:15 - 11:45) or afternoons (1:00-3:30). If you are interested in volunteering next year, please contact Kathryn Medanic at llcvolunteers@madisonschoolpta.org

Thank you to this year’s library volunteers: Maggie Bragassi, Melissa Bianco, Julie Bickel, Samantha Campen, Joo Chang, Karen Dawson, Melissa Dorn, DJ Emma, Sarah Gochee, Barb Ioli, Kate Kessler, Denise Krohn, Katheryn Medanic, Melisa Oker, Frances Phanthavong, Abby Richardson, Kathry Ruzycki, Janine Shimp, Kelly Styrkowicz, Jaime Szafanski, Suzie Weber, Keri Widmer, and Megan Zorn. Thank you so much for your time and dedication. Also, thank you to Cecilia Horejs, who organized the General Mills Box Tops For Education program.

Save the date for Run-A-Thon 2019

Save the date for Thurs., Sept. 19 for our annual Run-a-Thon. No rain date needed this year as the 2019 Run-A-Thon will be an indoor Glow Run! We will also be introducing a character theme (Wild West) during the week leading up to Run-a-Thon to teach students more about healthy habits. More information to come next year on this exciting twist to our school's largest fundraiser.

Incoming 5th graders, join the orchestra or band

Madison Cares and it shows

A great big thank you to all Madison students, families and staff for participating in this year's pop tab collection and various projects to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. With help from our amazing students, the Ronald McDonald House received 10 fleece blankets, 50 snack bags, and will receive a donation of approximately $300 from Hat Day donations. The pediatric floor at Central DuPage Hospital received over 30 activity bags for patients. We collected over 300 pounds of pop tabs in just 5 months. The winning grade will be announced at an all school assembly next week. Thank you Heather Graf, Sarah Gochee, and Bill Laster for all of your help this year with Madison Cares.

Time to turn in Room Parent, Class Party folders

Don’t forget to turn in your Room Parent and Class Party folders before the end of the year. If you haven’t already, get the Class Party folder back from the parent who coordinated the Valentine’s Day party. Please put them in the PTA mailbox in the office. There is also a larger box underneath for your convenience. Questions? Contact Shannon Klopfenstein at shannon@klopfensteins.com

Thank you Art Appreciation volunteers

A big shout out to all of the Art Appreciation volunteers for the 2018-2019 school year. The students and teachers appreciate your enthusiasm, time and efforts examining and discussing artists and their art.

Thank you to the following volunteers: Rachel Bailey, Melissa Bianco, Susan Busse, Lisa Callahan, David Chase, Jen Denson, Erika Dyer, Lesley Feinsot, Emily Garrity, Gina Garza, Stacy Gatt, Jennifer Guevara, Jess Harris, Mary Henderson, Jessica Houston, Greg Hull, Jennifer Kramer, Denise Krohn, Steve Laczo, Debbie McCraw, Jen McDonnell, Vandana Mody, Marla Mothershed, Meghan Orr, Sarah Perkins, Julie Schulz, Susanne Sheehan, Gina Smethells, Victoria Smith-Gaudette, Heather Sturm, Kelly Styrkowicz, Lynn Tucker and Megan Zorn.

Playground plans progress

As warmer weather prevails and the end of school nears, we're making final plans to install the new playground. We're just pennies away (wink, wink!) from being fully funded. In an effort to ramp up excitement from the students, we'll be collecting those last few pennies on June 10 and 11. On the afternoon of June 11, the school district will be at Madison to remove the old playground (weather permitting). The Wheaton Park District plans to begin installation the following week. Thanks to everyone that has been supporting this project along the way.

Volunteer to launch Coding Club

Are your students interested in a coding club? Committed parent helpers are needed to launch a coding club for the 2019-2020 school year. Email Shannon Klopfenstein (Shannon@klopfensteins.com) if you are able to help. Ideally parents who have a coding background and would be interested in presenting a lesson will volunteer, but any parent volunteer to help keep the club time on task are much appreciated.

Save the date - Trivia Night 2019

Trivia Night is Sat., November 2, 2019. This adults-only fundraiser supports the PTA with all its proceeds. Trivia Night is a chance to mingle with friends and make new friends during a night of food, drinks, silent auction and trivia.

Sign-up to join the committee to help in various ways, from planning, getting auction prizes, communicating and helping the actual night of the event. Email mary.g.henderson@gmail.com if you are interested. Our goal is to have a meeting before school is out for summer to get a jump start on planning.

Donations to benefit Madison families

If you are looking to donate anything such as clothing, home stuff, toys, electronics, etc. please consider giving to Family Tree Resale on Geneva and Main in Wheaton (by the Jewel).

For every bag of donations they receive on behalf of Madison School, Family Tree will in turn donate a voucher to our school for a family to use to purchase items. Just drive around to the side door, walk in, and someone will help you unload your donations. Be sure to mention Madison School.

Save General Mills box tops

Please save General Mills box tops and turn them in to the LLC. Madison can earn ten cents for every General Mills box top received. Thank you to Cecilia Horjes for heading up this effort. We purchased many copies of award books for the library. Thank you for your support.
