Aiming to Keep You Informed

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Hello! We hope that all of you had a restful and fun summer! We have a lot of important information listed below, so please take a moment to review each section. Thank you!

On Tuesday, August 13th we held Information Day, where students & parents were able to pick up schedules, bus routes, drop off supplies in their lockers, purchase WF locks and PE Uniforms if needed, visit with our PTO leaders, and check out our clubs and activities.

If you were not able to attend Info Day:

Your student schedules are available to view online. PE uniforms can be purchased by students during PE class. If you would like to pick up a schedule and bus route or if you'd like to purchase a lock, or drop off supplies in your locker before August 21st, you may come to school during the hours listed here:

New Procedures for 2019-2020:

Main Entrance security

In an effort to improve our safety and security procedures, a buzzer system has been installed at the Main Entrance door along Fairfield Way. When visiting Westfield, please press the buzzer and wait for assistance. If entrance is required and approved, someone in the office will release the door and you may proceed into the foyer for further assistance. The interior doors in the foyer will remain locked and will require further permission to enter the building. Thank you for your assistance in assuring the safety of our students, staff, and visitors!

Lunch drop-offs and deliveries

Please see this Letter from Dr. Bartelt regarding changes to School District 13 lunch drop-offs and deliveries. All approved lunch drop-offs will continue to be accepted through the Main Office entrance along Fairfield Way and placed on carts in the foyer that will be brought into the building by a staff member.

Cell Phones

Starting this school year, students will have the option of bringing their cell phones to class and leaving them in a designated location in each classroom, if they prefer not to leave them in their locker. Cell phones are still required to be turned off at all times during the class period, unless directed otherwise by a staff member.

We understand that cell phones and other similar devices are a huge part of the normal daily lives for our students. Therefore, students will have the option of checking their phones during passing periods, with the expectation that they are used appropriately and that students arrive to their next class on time and prepared. We believe that during class periods, students should take a break from their cell phones and social media, unless the activity is part of a classroom activity and directed by a staff member.

At no time are students allowed to take photos of other students or staff without the permission of a staff member. Bringing cell phones to school is considered a privilege and students are asked to follow all school rules for appropriate use of cell phones and electronic devices. School administration reserves the right to remove the privilege of cell phones if a student is not following the procedures and policies set forth by the District 13 School Board.

Lunch/Flex time

~8th Grade lunch is now split into an "A" Lunch and a "B" Lunch. The lunch period for 8th graders is designated on each student's schedule. 8A lunch is from 11:38 - 11:59. 8B lunch is 12:01- 12:22. The need to run two lunch periods for 8th grade was due to the size of the 8th grade class and the spaces utilized for 8th grade lunch and Flextime.

~7th Grade lunch remains from 11:38 - 11:59 and 6th Grade lunch is still 12:01 - 12:22. The length of each lunch period for all three grade levels has not changed.

~For all Grades 6-8, students will eat during their designated lunch time, and will attend Study Hall/Gym flex-time on alternating days during the other portion of 5th period. As in years past, Gym Flex-time offers students a chance to socialize with classmates, play 4-Square, Knock-Out, and walk the track in the New Gym.
