LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL - Brett Wille
Happy Friday Bearcat Families!
Each day I have about a 12 mile, 20 minute commute to and from Monroe High School. One of the best parts of my commute is taking a few minutes at a stoplight, or once I arrive at school, to sit and reflect on a few things. I have 6 notecards in my truck that I read and reflect on every morning…reminders to keep fresh in my brain, motivational quotes, big picture things I’m working on as a leader, a handful of reminders from the home-front around continuing to grow as a father and husband, and more. As part of this daily “get my mind right” before walking into MHS, I make myself rattle off three things that I’m grateful for. They can be anything from home, to school, to family, to friends…whatever comes to my mind at that moment. This 30 second reflection always helps me remember that, whatever is going on in my life, in our school, in our community, or in the world as a whole, there are always things that we can find to be thankful for.
In the spirit of this time of year and thinking about what it means to be grateful, I wanted to share a few things that, at this moment right now, come to mind for me and my role here at MHS. I am grateful for…
Our community, the endless buckets of support that you send our way continuously, the “let’s come together and pass this darn levy” attitude that we just witnessed, your love and care for our lucky students, and your willingness to engage in hard conversations that challenge our thinking and our practices...all in an effort to continue to improve what we do for our students. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
My principal colleagues and central office partners throughout the district and our efforts to align this important work across all of our schools. Your grit and perseverance, especially the past couple of years, have been beyond inspiring. We’ve hung together, sometimes barely, and we’re still here making things better for these lucky kids. What we are creating here in Monroe is life-changing and it’s an honor to serve with you.
Our parents and your partnership from home, the trust you place in us each and every day, your helpful feedback, your endless patience over the past couple of years, and all of the ways that you continue to point out the great work happening here for our kids. You are appreciated more than you know.
Our staff, their courage, their willingness to learn and grow, their belief in our Mission of High School PLUS, their participation in our goal to be more purposeful at MHS this year, their relentless pursuit of what our students need, and their vision for becoming a school that ALL students in Monroe deserve. This is the most hard working and committed staff I’ve had the pleasure of working with and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish in the years ahead.
And finally, our amazing students, the assets they are, the things they teach us, their attitude and effort, the hopes and dreams that they all have, and the commitment that the vast majority of them are showing right now to be a part of making MHS an even better school for ALL students. Yes, sometimes you drive us all crazy around here, but you are the reason we are here, you are what school is all about, and you are why we continue to dig deeper on what we can do better, and differently, so that you graduate MHS with all of the tools you need to access the goals and dreams that are ahead of you. You put a smile on my face each and every single day. It’s an honor to serve and support you as your principal.
So...there you have it! Just a handful of the many things that come to the top of my mind that I’m grateful for here at MHS. I could literally write page after page…this is a great place to fulfill my own, personal purpose as an educator and I’m grateful every day as I drive to and from MHS.
Please enjoy the weekend and the holiday break next week as we all take a few moments to reflect on what we have to be thankful for.
Mr. Wille
