Phonics: We will be working on a reader's theater of The Little Red Hen. We will be focusing on reading the different parts in the story with fluency and accuracy.
When looking at a word we will find the special sounds first and circle them, then find the vowels and mark them, and finally sound out the word.
One-Vowel Rule: When there is one vowel in a word it says the short sound and gets marked with a smile.
Two-Vowel Rule: When there are two vowels in a word the first vowel says the long sound and the second one is silent. We mark the long sound with a line across the top and cross out the silent vowel.
Math: In math we are starting on our unit on numbers to 100. We are working on counting to 100 by ones, tens, fives, and twenty-fives and recognizing pennies, dimes, nickels, and quarters.
Writing: We will be working in writing on copying poems and writing full complete sentences.
When writing a sentence we look for: the first letter of the sentence being capitalized, finger spaces between words, no backwards or uppercase letters that do not belong, and ending punctuation.
When writing we look for holding the pencil with a pinch grip, starting from the top when writing, and correct letter formation.
Memory: "Forgive each other because the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13
