What's News At Magee?
#7 - April 2018
Magee into the Future
Here at Magee, we are also continuing the work of the district and providing our students the opportunity to learn without boundaries as well. The configuration of students each year is flexible, meaning it can, and does change based on class size and enrollment. The ability of the Magee staff to be nimble in response to changes has continued to provide effective and seamless instruction for all of our students. The dedication of our staff to provide the best instruction each and every day creates a strong foundation for each student.
Personalized instruction by an effective, caring and dedicated staff will stay the same at Magee. Multi-age environments are part of all of our elementary schools, which leads to an opportunity for teachers to collaborate with each other, to strengthen the work being done in classrooms, and ultimately impact the success and achievement of all learners.
The 18-19 configuration will be one 5K (Mrs. Weiss), three 1/2 classrooms (Ms. Thuilliez, Mrs. Coss, Mrs. Woyahn), two co-taught 3rd grades (Mrs. LaRoque, Mrs. Luedtke), and three 4/5 classrooms (Mr. Suhr, Mrs. Mastrocola and Mrs. Nettesheim).
Part of what makes Magee special is the family atmosphere and the many different valued traditions. Popcorn Day, the Halloween Parade, Magee TV, and 5K Buddies, 5th grade End of Year activities, just to name a few. New traditions have also been created - a yearbook designed in part by 5th graders, Mindful Monday assemblies, our new greenhouse, and some traditions are yet to be established. Yes, configurations will be different, but the heart of Magee will beat on as we move into the future.
Students and Social Media
As a school, we teach digital citizenship and how to be a consumer and user of technology. Students are using technology for learning. Online tools used by the district go through a vetting process and there is also a filter.
Keeping track of all of the apps can be a full-time job! Please have conversations with your child about the apps he/she is using. Parental controls can be enabled on laptops, Ipads, tablets, phones, etc.
Be aware of your child's social media habits. A single posted picture can give a viewer your child's location, school they go to, sports they like, physical features, even address! Teach your children what it means to be respectful, responsible and safe on the Internet!
PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!!
Safety is our top priority!
Our parking lot - before school, after school and on weekends is really a place where ALL drivers need to drive slowly - no more than 5 MPH!Whether is is drop off or pick up when parents and students are moving in and out of Magee, or you are driving around to drop off/pick up at before/after school care, PLEASE SLOW DOWN!
In the last two weeks alone, we have had cars driving too quickly around the back of school, narrowly missing staff with children entering the building. The turn in back is a blind turn - it needs to be taken with caution.
Thank you for your attention to your speed!

What is the Blue Ribbon Commission and why is it important?
The Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding was created to take a comprehensive look into our education funding system. Public school funding accounts for one third of the general revenue in our state budget and receives the most money of any state program. The education funding formula has over two dozen categorical aids (special education aid, sparsity aid, per pupil aid, pupil transportation aid, etc.), which determine the funding given for various school programs and education purposes.
As the demographics and population trends in our state have changed, our education funding formula has remained the same. Sixty-one percent of all public school districts in Wisconsin are experiencing declining enrollment. Some districts also have high property values, particularly in rural lake districts, which means that they receive little to no aid from the state. We need to review how tax dollars are being distributed among the schools in our state.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about school funding in Wisconsin and how it impacts Kettle Moraine.
