Modest Mouse
In 2000, Modest Mouse released The Moon and Antarctica, their first album on Epic Records. The album was critically well-received including a 9.8 out of 10 score from online music magazine, Pitchfork Media It has subsequently gone on to receive further acclaim. Brock has since released an album with his side project Ugly Casanova on Sub Pop.
The Shins
The band was formed by James Mercer as a side project to Flake Music, who were active from 1992 to 1999. The band released two 7" singles on Omnibus Records and were touring with Modest Mouse when they were signed to Sub Pop Records. The band's first two records performed well commercially and received critical acclaim. The single "New Slang" brought the band mainstream attention when it was featured in the 2004 film Garden State.
Interpol
Having first performed at the Luna Lounge, they are one of the bands associated with the New York City indie music scene, and was one of several groups that emerged from the post punk revival of the 2000s. The band's sound is generally a mix of staccato bass and rhythmic, harmonized guitar, with a snare heavy mix, drawing comparisons to post-punk bands such as Joy Division Aside from the lyrics, their songwriting method includes all of the band members, rather than relying on any given chief songwriter
