"Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Each Other, Take Care of This Place"

A Note from Mr. Pippin, Executive Director

Welcome back TGNS Bulldogs! I am so excited to kick off the 2020-2021 school year. I know this has already started off as a very different type of school year with our all virtual learning. Please know this is for the safety of all our students, staff and families.

Our teachers have been hard at work preparing their virtual classrooms for our students. They have really taken a lot of time to plan engaging instruction and activities that will make this a much better virtual learning experience than this past spring.

Our Student Services team has been working around the clock to get all student computers, iPads, school supplies, t-shirts and backpacks ready for delivery. Proud of all the time and energy they have dedicated to this endeavor.

Reminder that school starts promptly at 9:00am Monday, August 17! We can't wait to see you! Have a wonderful school year and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school with any questions.

10 Tips for Creating a Home Learning Space

Create a space for learning.

  • Whether you have a dedicated space or the kitchen table, keep the space consistent.
  • Create a routine for your child.

Organize a well-lit area

  • Lighting can play a big factor in the effectiveness of a learning space.
  • Make sure your child has plenty of light in their space to complete their work.

Declutter the space.

  • Remove any distractions your child may have from the area.

Reduce distractions.

  • Make a list of the things that distract your student.
  • Is it the game system or tablet? Maybe social media?
  • Find ways to limit these distractions during learning time.

Think about your child’s needs.

  • What colors do they like?
  • Does it need to be a quiet space or have background noise?
  • Do they like seclusion or open spaces?
  • Include these things in their learning space

Be selective with supplies

  • Make sure your child has the necessary supplies to complete work each day (technology, chargers, paper, pencils, headphones, etc.).

Post the student's learning schedule and stick to it.

  • Digital learning at home should have a similar schedule as if the student were in the classroom.
  • Set alarms or timers on your devices to let your child know when they need to be in their live class session.

School Work Calendar

  • Create a visual list of class assignments on the wall.
  • Students can then cross off those assignments as they complete them and have that sense of ownership.

Take brain breaks.

  • Take stretch breaks and brain breaks.
  • Allow students to get up and run around for a few minutes and then refocus on learning.

Communicate with your student's teacher.

  • If you find your child is experiencing challenges with digital learning, it's important for you to review the material the teacher has assigned and discuss options with their teacher.
  • Remember: If it's a challenge for your child, it's most likely a problem for other students, too.
