Knightly Update January 5, 2021
Edition Vol 9 - Special Edition
Good afternoon. I hope everyone had a good day and our students are ready to begin the semester virtually. The purpose of today's update is to share the parameters that will be followed during virtual instruction. In short, we will follow the same guidelines and bell schedule that was followed during the first quarter. These parameters are shared below. As before, students who need to report to campus to access WiFi may do so. A link to register and a form to complete in order to come to school is also included in today's special Knightly Update. Our students and teachers did an excellent job last semester within our virtual environment, and I have no doubt we will experience similar success over the coming days. Please note that students will begin the semester in periods 2, 4 and 6 tomorrow. The daily instructional calendar is included below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Thank you.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Important COVID-19 Reminders
Please remember students should not come to school if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are waiting for test results, or have been in close contact (within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or had physical contact with a person with COVID-19, you need to stay in quarantine at home.) Parents need to report this to our nurse, Mrs. Hughes.

Virtual Learning Attendance Procedures
Reporting your child’s attendance for virtual learning is not much different than on-campus learning.
Reporting Your Students Absence: If your student is unable to attend class for the day, or for a period of time during the day, you will need to call the ACP-Erie Attendance Line at 480-424-8003 to report your student’s absence.
- Contacting a teacher will NOT substitute for notifying the office. You must call the Attendance Line to report each absence (for the day or specific period).
When do I Report an Absence: Ideally your call to report your students absence should be done first thing in the morning (between 6:00am – 8:00am), so that their attendance is documented for teachers to see. If you call out your student later than 8:00am their attendance will be documented in a timely manner for teacher knowledge.
Reporting a Late Absence: Parents must call the Attendance Line (480-424-8003) within 24 hours of a student’s absence from school.
Unreported Absence: If your student did not engage in ‘live’ distance learning and we have not heard from the student’s parent/guardian, they will be marked as an ‘unexcused’ absent. If your student completes & submits “said teacher assignment” (this may be different by class) within 48 hours, the ‘unexcused’ absence will be changed once the parent contacts the attendance office either by phone 480-424-8003 or email, mccaulou.jacqueline@cusd80.com. Attendance changes may take up to 24 hours based on the time of submission by the parent.
Technical Difficulties: Should your student encounter a technical issue, i.e.: WiFi, and is unable to participate in the ‘live’ Distance Learning class period, the parent/guardian will need to email the students teacher(s) and Cc the Attendance Tech., mccaulou.jacqueline@cusd80.com, sharing that the student is having technical issues. Attendance will note that a technical issue has occurred and that the student cannot participate for the current class period or day.
For additional attendance information and to familiarize yourself with CUSD & ACP Attendance Policies, visit the ACP Erie attendance website.

Textbook Distribution
Due to beginning this quarter virtually, we will be distributing textbooks to students needing a textbook or novel on Thursday or Friday this week (January 7th and 8th). Students can pick up their textbooks in our library between 2:30 and 4:00 on either of these days. Teachers will inform their students if any additional textbooks or novels need to be picked up. Students that are new to ACP, or returning from COA, should plan to make arrangements to come to the campus to pick up their materials one of these days.
In the event you are unable to come to the campus on either Thursday or Friday, please contact the office, (480) 424-8000. If a student has any outstanding textbooks from prior school years, they will not be permitted to pick up their materials until outstanding books have been returned.
When you arrive on campus, please ensure you are wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing guidelines, and following staff directions. It is important to note that families may arrive at any time between 2:30 and 4:00. It will be appreciated, however, that students/families arrive no later than 10 minutes prior to 4:00 to ensure ample time is available to distribute materials before the start of the end of the session. For your convenience, parking will be available in the student, visitor, and faculty lot. Signage will be provided to direct guests to the bookstore/library and a map is included below for your use as well.

Final Exams Make-Up
Makeup Final exams will be administered during on January 11th and 12th. Some key points for students and parents.
- Each exam will be 75 minutes (with a 5-minute break) between exams.
- Mitigation strategies will be followed. Exams will be administered in the cafeteria which allows for social distancing.
- Students with 3 or fewer exams will complete makeups on the same day.
- Students with 4 or more exams will need to attend both days.
- Teachers realize students may miss instruction in order to make-up their exams and will work with individuals appropriately.
- Students who opt to wait to take the exams until after the virtual period concludes (pending CUSD Governing Board's directive), will need to schedule the taking of the exam with their teacher.
- Please contact your counselor to schedule your appointment and to learn more about the arrangements that are put in place.
