Taking a Closer Look at Curriculum
We are so excited to welcome parents to campus on September 21 at 5:30 p.m. for Lower School Curriculum Night and 6:30 p.m. for Middle and Upper School Curriculum Night. The purpose of Curriculum Night is to help parents better understand what happens in our classrooms on a daily basis. This is an opportunity for parents to see what and how their students are learning, the coherence and relevance of the curriculum, and the rich and rigorous learning experience that GWA provides. Different from Open House, this evening will focus primarily on curriculum and is designed specifically for parents, so students are asked not to attend.
Lower school parents will go to their child’s homeroom class where they will have the opportunity to see and understand what goes on each day in the classroom. Teachers will be sharing information about the daily experience of the children as they learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Upper school parents will meet in the Nicholson Center, and middle school parents will meet in the cafeteria. We look forward to a great evening!

Amy Wilkes, Middle School Division Head

The Copper Cycle
First Draft
Students in Mrs. Watts’ Drafting and Design class are starting work on technical drawing by first learning to use the tools - drafting boards, lettering guides, parallel bars, and triangles. The new elective option gives upper school students an introduction to architectural and engineering drafting.
All About YOU!
Our upper school students began their journey to discover and understand their respective talents through YouScience during LINX/advisory this past Wednesday. YouScience is a tool and resource to help connect students to their best-fit pathways, careers, and post-secondary opportunities. It consists of a series of assessment modules that helps measure students' hard-wired aptitudes and natural talents with real-world opportunities. It connects their results with the latest data in careers, some they have never heard of or knew existed. These results will help our students discover new careers where they can gain real-life experience as juniors and seniors through our Winter Term Internship program. The GWA College Counseling office utilizes YouScience results to help students on a personal level make long-term career goals, and shape a college search process that aligns with their goals. Meet the Rep!
Seniors - if a school visits GWA that is also on their Naviance list, they need to be there.
Juniors - are required to participate in at least three rep visits this year.
Sophomores - are required to go to at least one college rep visit this semester.
Freshmen - it couldn't hurt for 9th graders to join the fun too!
Click HERE for the list of upcoming college representative visits.
Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council members!
Meet Sherre Cown
K4 teacher Sherre Cown is next in our spotlight! Ms. Sherre is starting her 36th year at GWA and says she is a “UGA/GWA Bulldog through and through!” She is known as “Gigi” by her grandchildren and three of them attend GWA. All three of her children graduated from GWA in classes ’97, ’99 and ’01.
Sherre is also a Braves fan and she enjoys reading, cooking, travel and watching all of her teams win!
Ready to Compete!
Family and friends enjoyed yesterday’s competition cheer showcase as the middle school and varsity squads presented their new routines. Thanks to the middle school football team for attending the event and best of luck to both squads at Saturday’s competition at Morgan County High School.
New Design Class Takes Shape
This year the GWA Middle School added several new elective options, including Introduction to Computer Aided Design. This course gives students a basic introduction to the world of digital 3D design using Autodesk TinkerCAD. In addition to learning to create digital models, our students are currently building a 3D printer which they will use to print their unique designs. Stay tuned to see what these Tinkerers create!
Dawgs Unleashed is Our Jam!
Going Pink!
Please join us for our pre-game tailgate on September 17 at 6 p.m. in the courtyard. At 7:05 p.m. cancer survivors, caregivers and those impacted by cancer will be recognized on the football field. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. against Hebron Christian Academy. Don’t forget to wear PINK!
And the Award Goes To...
