Message from the Principal
3rd six weeks progress report grading period ended last Friday and we are only 2 weeks away from the end of the 1st semester. Student exemption forms are now open online in Skyward and are available through December 5th. Students must login to their skyward portfolio account and complete online.
Senior Portrait deadline is 12/15. These are the ONLY portraits that will be used for the 2024 Yearbook and in the Senior Slideshow at graduation in May. We are still missing 194 seniors!!
Action Required

Please make sure you have uploaded your grade sheet and parent contact log in Canvas at this time.
Lesson Plans

Instructional Highlights
Hands-On Learning
Chemistry students had a blast creating bonds using spice candy. They worked in small groups to sketch the bonds first, and then their three-dimensional models came to life! The discussions were great!

Walkthroughs
Admin will use the 'Lamar CISD Classroom Expectations' template in Strive for walkthroughs. The district is calibrating how we enter walkthroughs across campuses. Note the following:
- 'N/A' will be used when we would not expect to see the indicator listed at the time we visited the room
- Ex: We would choose 'N/A' for 'Greets students at the door' if our visit is after class begins
- 'Not Observed' will be used when we would have expected to see the noted indicator at the time we enter
- This is not intended to be negative feedback - we are aware that we will not observe all items during every visit
- Feedback will be included with an area of Reinforcement and Refinement
- CFHS admin will be calibrating on how we define these areas
- Feel free to ask the administrator entering the walkthrough if you have any questions about yours
Charger Time
Please make sure that you are enrolled in the Charger Time Canvas and access it each day during Charger Time.
There may be short tasks for students or information for students from Mr. Forshee, Ms. Saville, counselors, etc. Click the purple button to access the Canvas. Navigate to the appropriate week/day.
Information from Instructional Coaches
Everyone is doing a remarkable job working to engage our students! Don't forget our "big three" strategies that connect to last years 8 Kagan strategies!
1. Get the students moving or up and out of the seat if possible -- even briefly. Just a bit of movement can re-engage the brain during difficult concepts. Station rotation is a GREAT way to chunk this.
2. Get the students talking to each other. Post Covid era students are learning how to do this all over again. Let's allow them to sort through the content before we give them the answers.
3. Get them in front of you. Eye to eye contact is really important when it comes to building relationships, motivating students, holding them accountable, and giving feedback that is meaningful. (Pro-Tip: grade WITH the students in a teacher small group).
In addition to the engagement strategies, we are really working on making sure the students know exactly what the goal is for the day. To do this, be intentional with the creation of your objectives. Take a quick second to remind them what they are doing and how they will show what they know.
Example Objective: I can compare and contrast the three branches of government using a graphic organizer.
(Notice the parts of this objective: 1. What will they do. (Skill) 2. How will they do it. (Product).)
We are looking for a few brave teachers who will let us come observe their teacher small group or how they break down their objective in class. We'd love to show others how much of a rockstar you are! Booking links below!
