Wheeler Flash
October 2015
Message From the Principal
The month of October was action packed and full of excitement at Wheeler! See all of the evidence below!
I want to thank all of the parents who attended the first PTO meeting. We had a packed house! Your support and involvement is critical to the successful planning and implementation of all fundraisers and activities for our children and families at Wheeler. Thank you Wheeler Teachers for attending the PTO meetings. A PTO will not be nearly effective without the partnerships of parents and teachers in planning events.
The Wheeler School Community, in partnership with the Linden and Toffolon Elementary Schools, continue to work hard toward achieving our school improvement goal in the area of reading. We have been doing this through our collaborations with teachers across district in order to implement our new reading units of study. It is amazing to see our students acquire a love for reading! Your continued support in ensuring your child reads at night or reading to your child at night is critical to their continued development and success in reading. Reading together side by side is another fun activity which models the importance and love for reading.
Thanks to the entire Wheeler Community for lending a hand in the growth and development of all Wheeler Students!
Sincerely,
Mr. B.
Principal, Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School

The 6th Annual Wheeler Walk A Thon
6th Annual Wheeler Walk A Thon
The 6th annual Wheeler Walkathon was held on Thursday, October 8th. Students in PreK through 5th grade participated in the event which raised $1500.00 for the school. 100% of the proceeds go directly back to the Wheeler PTO. This year the money is going to be put toward benches near the new playscape. The students obtain pledges (a minimum of $10.00) before the walk date and then walk laps around the field during the walkathon. The children earn a bead for each lap completed which they then string together to make a bracelet. Pledges are entered into a raffle drawing and one child from each grade gets chosen as a winner. A grand prize goes to the student with the highest pledge of the whole school. The class with the most pledges is also recognized. This year Miss Bartomioli's first grade class raised the most money. A second walkathon is scheduled for May.

Fire Marshall Sutherland's visit to Wheeler's First Grade, 10/28, to talk about fire safety and when to use 911. Students learned about checking home detectors, crawling low under smoke and to stop, drop and roll if their clothes caught fire. Mr. Sutherland also discussed the importance of having a meeting spot to be sure everyone was out safely. Lastly, students enjoyed walking through the Fire truck after learning about what it carried and the roll of the equipment on board.
