Living and Learning with Respect

Welcome to our newest pupil this week, Toby and his family Aaron & Olivia.

Our school roll sits at a very comfortable 149 with two new entrants expected next month.

Life Education Classroom

Next week we are fortunate to have Michelle and Harold (the Giraffe) in our school in the Life Ed mobile classroom to work with each class. Michelle will be available to meet with parents from 2.55pm to 'show off' her classroom or answer any questions parents may have. It is a fantastic opportunity to see inside the truck at all the wonderful ways she has at her fingertips to connect with the children. Cost for this programme is $2.50 per student and may be paid at the office or will be added to your child's account.

Working with Scientists

This week Whio Room are starting some exciting learning, working alongside scientists and students from another school, in the field, at Lake Rotokare. Their focus over the coming months is to help find answers to questions around the biodiversity of invertebrates (animals without a backbone) and their place in the ecosystem as well as determine the effects of restoration projects, such as riparian planting. The first task is to set up some 'Pitfall Traps' at Lake Rotokare and then begin to collect some baseline data. We hope to replicate what we are doing 'in our own backyard' back at school and begin to 'think like scientists' as we explore, compare and contrast our data. This is a Curious Minds funded project with Lake Rotokare, Venture Taranaki, with scientists and support from DoC, Taranaki Regional Council, MAIN Trust NZ, Bright Sparks.

All children will eventually be involved, just not all at once!

Meet the Teacher

Thank you to those who came along last week to meet teachers and hear a brief snapshot of what is happening for your child in their classrooms. If you wish to meet for a formal 'chat' with your child's teacher, please arrange a suitable time outside of teaching hours. This is best done by contacting the teacher directly. Do not assume they are able to 'drop everything' to talk, especially first thing in the morning!

A Gentle Reminder...

School starts for all children at 8.55am. It is important that children are at school before this so they are ready to begin with everyone else. we have too many children wandering in after 9 when the day has already begun.

Please also think about when and why you 'allow' your child to stay home from school. We know there are usually genuine reasons but we have noticed a rising trend of children staying home for birthdays, a whole day for afternoon appointments, second half of sports days and a whole day because they need a sleep in! We appreciate that you know your child best and occasionally its OK but, school is important!

Updated Details

If you haven't already returned your updated details form, please do so to enable us to keep our records up to date. We have already noticed a few discrepancies with our data! Please check with Jenny if unsure.

School Accounts

There are still some outstanding accounts from last year. Please ensure these are paid promptly to allow us to complete our end of year financial accounting. If unsure please see Jenny in the office.
