The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School.
Greetings from Carleton!
It was great to see so many parents at our recent Title I and Open House events. Thank you for setting aside time in your busy lives to take an interest in your child's middle school education. Please reflect on the message from Dr. Livernois regarding the importance (and correlation) between attending schools and achievement. Please stress the importance of attending school all day, everyday (even half days), when you are feeling well.
Mark your calendars! We have our first Booster Club meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 17th at 6 pm in the Media Center. Please consider attending, as all parents and guardians of Carleton Middle School students are Booster Club members. Stay involved in your child's education and help support our school!
It's great to see so many student athletes that have come out to try volleyball or football during the start of a new school year. If your son or daughter is interested in basketball or track, you will still need a physical on file. You can obtain this anytime from now until the start of the new season.
We've received some questions about Parent Portal and access to grades, attendance, lunch balances, etc. Parent Portal is now active and up and running. Contact the main office at 586.825.2590 if you are experiencing any trouble.
Lastly, we have a half day dismissal on Friday, September 20th for our first PLC (Professional Learning Community) during the afternoon for our staff. Please note that students will be dismissed at 11 am. Please be proactive and communicate a plan with your son/daughter to determine after school plans and pick-ups. Thank you!
Sports Update
Football practice began earlier this week and will continue to be from 3-4:30 pm everyday. It is not too late to join, however, any student wishing to play must have a physical on file with the office. Our first scrimmage is right around the corner.
Both 7th and 8th grade Volleyball teams have been established and we appreciate everyone that attended try-outs. All students left with new knowledge, exposure to the game, and an appreciation for hard work. Great job ladies!
We would like to wish our student athletes a terrific season and would like to thank all of those that came out to try-out, participate, and represent Carleton in a positive way. Please continue to show great sportsmanship on and off of the field.

REACH for your best!
One of the concepts we've introduced to your children during the first few days of school is how to REACH for success or REACH for their best during the school day. This phrase comes out of a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) initiative at Carleton to better support all students with the expected school behaviors. As a quick introduction, we use the words below to teach, reinforce, and notice positive behaviors in our classrooms, hallways, lunchroom, and other areas of our school community. We also are able to redirect and reteach students that may need additional support or understanding of the expectations. We hope that all students will have a better understanding of what it means to REACH for success by the end of the school year.
