Matt's Message
Kia Ora Koutou e te Whānau
Firstly, thank you to everyone involved in my warm welcome to Pāpāmoa Primary on Monday. I think anyone starting a new position in the midst of a pandemic is always going to finds things a little bit strange. However, Monday was a great introduction to a great school community and culture.
For those of you who have not seen or have not been on Facebook, I have posted a small introduction video of myself for the community to be able to see and hear me - I have also added it to this newsletter. In these very different circumstances of COVID, this seems to be the way that I am going to need to do things so you are able to get to know me a little better.
I will be spending time at the gates in the morning and afternoons so please feel free to say hello and introduce yourself.
Getting to know Matt a little more.
Prior to Pāpāmoa, I was Principal at the other Tauranga PPS, Pillans Point School, I was Principal there for just over ten years. Before that, I was Deputy Principal at Mount Maunganui Primary School and have taught at several other schools in both NZ and the UK.
I am married to my beautiful wife Lee, who also works in education, and we are the proud parents of three children, Zac(12), Ella(10), and Olivia(8), who keep us both busy with their passions for sport, dance and music.
Lee & I love being involved in our children's passions, coaching and supporting them outside of school life. I like to cycle, run and play the guitar in my downtime. We also enjoy exploring NZ in our caravan during the school holidays.
What are the children calling me?
I'm known to your children as Mr S or Matua Matt. It is not often that your children will call me Mr Simeon.
While it might not be easy at the moment, I look forward to getting to know you over the coming days, weeks and months.
