For Heaven's Sake
Our Lady Queen of Heaven School - December 2019
From the Principal's Desk
As Thanksgiving has passed and we approach the end of Advent, I’m taking time to reflect on the many things for which I am thankful. I am reminded by the scripture passage which outlines the expectations that our Lord has for us, “To whom much has been given, much is expected.” (Luke 12:48.) I am grateful for a school community that embraces this call to service. Initiatives like our recent Coats for Kids Drive, Christmas Box drive and now the canned food drive to support the St. Vincent DePaul Society, are life changing for so many.
I am even more thankful for the community members who offer up so much to help our school and our students succeed. In doing this, you are helping teach our students the importance of service. Over the course of the past months we have had so many students step up and help with community efforts, spearheaded especially by our Student Council and Beta organizations. Our students are taking God’s call to serve as a serious challenge every week of every month. This is the foundation of what we want our students to learn. Thank you for helping us teach them this important aspect of our faith.
I would like to extend a sincere thanks to the OLQHS community for demonstrating such generosity when those in our community experience hardship. The recent outpouring of support by so many of our families was moving. I ask that you continue to keep all members of the OLQHS community who are ill or suffering in your prayers. As we move through the Advent season I pray that you all have a safe and blessed Christmas, and that God returns to you tenfold, the outpouring of generosity that you have shown.
Peace,
Trevor Donnelly

The OLQHS faculty as a whole has already wholeheartedly supported this campaign with a total pledge of $7,284. Our faculty, as Catholic school teachers, give above and beyond each and every day and their job is their mission. Please join them in support of this annual fundraising initiative. The money raised from this campaign will be divided evenly between the school’s operating budget for special projects and improvements, and the school’s endowment, the OLQHS Trust.
If each OLQHS family gives $100 - 100 x 500 = $50,000 for our school! Please prayerfully consider a gift!

Our new 1st Graders are William Braud, Jeanne Marie Stine, and Zachary Graham. Artsonia has a new 3rd Grader in the Hall of Fame--Jon Mousset. We also have a new 6th Grader in the Hall of Fame, Kasey Reed. Congratulations to you all!!

Remember, the Art Department at OLQH gets 20% of all sales. Guaranteed delivery for Christmas if ordered by December 16th.
The Kindergarteners have just finished their Santa and Rudoph pictures. They are priceless and will be on Artsonia soon. They look great on the Artsonia Christmas Ornaments. First Graders are drawing Mary and Jesus--The Reason for the Season. Second Graders are still working on their Fall Trees, but took a break to draw a Santa Face in an upside down heart--I Love Christmas!
The Third Graders are still coloring their Thanksgiving Turkeys, which are now turning into Christmas Turkeys. Fourth Graders are working very hard on their gourd Christmas Ornaments, which are hand painted, outlined, and sealed with polyurethane. They will make a wonderful, lasting family gifts.
Sixth Graders are making a Christmas tessellation using a diamond at 60 degrees. They will color three diamonds identically and put them together to make a hexagon with three Christmas drawings. Seventh Graders just finished their Abstracts in the style of Mr. Jay Bowdon, a local artist. Each student is critiquing one of his pictures while he is critiquing one of their pieces. Check the critiques online at artsonia.com. They are now learning how to draw using the grid system with pictures of famous Americans and Europeans.
The 8th Grade Fine Arts Survey just finished an excellent three day study with Mr. Jay Penfield, an Assistant Lighting Programmer on Broadway. He taught them all about the theater and how to analyze a script. Each student has both costuming and scenery assignments for their play, "Little Red-Cap" (Little Red Riding Hood, Grimms Version). I can't wait to see their designs. The 8th Grade FAS also had a wonderful field trip to the Henning House Quilt Exhibition in Sulphur. Learned so much and had a great time.
Remember, we are always creating, making messes, and having FUN.
Merry Christmas to All!!

Each year parents must be informed that the school has complied with all national standards regarding asbestos on campus. Certain vinyl floors and the panels that are below the quad windows will have to be handled appropriately if ever replaced. Our report indicates that existing asbestos is in good condition and we have the highest rating given. You are welcome to examine the asbestos file in the office if desired.
