About the Author
Lois Lowry is the author of more than thirty different children's books and autobiographies including: The Giver and Number the Stars. She has won two Newbery Medals. She was born on March 20, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Now she is currently seventy six years old. She went to high school at Curtis High School, and got her college degrees at two different colleges. The two colleges that she went to are the University of Southern Maine and Brown University. Her parents are Katherine Gordon (nee Landis) and Robert E. Hammersberg. Her father was of Norwegian descent and her mother had German, English, and Scotch-Irish ancestry. Lowry's parents named her "Cena" for her Norwegian grandmother but after hearing this she told them that the child should have a American name.
