CSCS Parent Smore Update
March 25, 2020
A Message from Mr. Anderson & Mrs. DeCamp
The middle of our second week!
As we prepare for the unknown we are working to make sure that we are prepared should there be an extension past spring break and also, to gather information of how we can continue supporting our community. One of the questions we have been talking about is the level of and quality of internet access in the community. Please note that your child's teacher will be reaching out to you to ask some information regarding your families internet availability.
Located in this parent update are several resources to help parents continue to challenge and access educational resources for your children. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it's okay, to be honest so are we! The most important thing you can do right now is to spend time with your child, tell them you love them, hug them, laugh with them!
I hope you enjoy a couple of short fun read alouds by Mrs. DeCamp and Mr. Anderson in this smore too!
With Faith, Love, and Hope.
Go Panthers!
This Upcoming Week
Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions. Please understand that we do not have our full secretarial staff on sight, so it may take up to 24 hours to respond. But I promise we will get back to everyone that reaches out.
Check out Mrs. DeCamp and her daughter doing a cool read aloud on how you can be a helper and make our a community a better place!
Gathering information regarding internet access
We at school are working to help parents get appropriate internet access to assist their children at home. Please note that over the next week your child's teacher will be reaching out to ask the following questions:
- Do you have internet access? If yes, how do you access the internet (hotspot, dish/satellite, cable)? If you use a cell for a mobile hotspot, what service provider do you use?
- Would you rate your access: Very reliable, Somewhat reliable, capped/limited, unreliable.
- What devices do you use to access the internet? Laptop/desktop computer, mobile phone, tablet.
- Do you have a printer?
We are hoping to get data on every family in our District to know where we are as a school community in regards to internet access and possible resources we can find to help assist.
Access To Wifi - "CSCS Guest Open"
Simply click on "CSCS Guest Open" and you will be connected to the school's wifi. Please note all school filters and security measures apply on this network.
Breakfast and Lunch available daily to all school aged children!
A HUGE Shout-Out to our cafeteria staff as they are more "essential" than ever to help support and take care of our community!
Resources for Parents
Accessing Online Digital Learning Plans from School Website
Please note that over the course of this upcoming week teachers will be adding materials to these folders. Please do not expect the folders to be populated immediately, as children have already been provided a plethora of materials that they took home last week.
Please download the following attachment for directions on how to access these folders.
The Bottom Line :)
Located in this parent update are several resources to help parents continue to challenge and access educational resources for your children. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it's okay, to be honest so are we! The most important thing you can do right now is to spend time with your child, tell them you love them, hug them, laugh with them!
As for education, if you can get them to engage in school work, iReady lessons, work given home last week, and a myriad of the other resources out there, awesome! Thank you! But if you're feeling that overwhelmed feeling, have your kids do this:
- Reading every day (independent or to them or via audiobook etc)
- Writing - Diary writing/daily journal, creative story writing, create a comic book, write directions for how to build their dream playhouse or favorite meal.
- Math - Practical hands on math. Be that via cooking, cleaning, outside or some math games physical or digital.
- Some fine motor work. Lego, cutting, playdough, tidying up small toys. Yes! Clean their rooms!
- Physical exercise everyday...Go outside, run, play, be a child!
- Some art/music where possible throughout the week. Doesn't need be planned, family dance party, sing songs together, draw pictures and paint!
- Projects! - Get them to independently work on a project is great for keeping brains ticking! Get them researching in a book or online and putting together something to present to you or family.
- PLAY! Imaginative free play, the more independent the better.
*If you haven't noticed, all of those things can be used to the advantage of the parent ;). Sneaky, but highly appropriate!
Overall, don't allow school expectations to cause stress in your home! A child needs love, understanding, and security before anything else. You are all doing an amazing job being there for you children in an incredibly stressful and difficult time. It's okay! We are blown away by how amazing you are!

A Closing Thought
We are hopeful that students will be able to come back to school following Spring Break, on Monday, April 13th. However, given how rapidly this situation has changed, that is not a certainty. We will keep you updated as more information become available or as April 13th approaches.
Thank you for your continued cooperation, understanding, flexibility and diligence. It is appreciated more than you may realize.
