Bobcat Families
The Georgia College Parent and Family Newsletter
#GCUnited
What a month it has been! A few weeks ago I had drafted my usual monthly newsletter to you, excited to recap the buzzer-beater Homecoming game (GC beat UNG 78-77, in case you missed it) and to share other exciting spring happenings. Then the COVID-19 news starting coming in quickly, and the focus shifted to making sure you stayed informed about the changes that were coming.
Over the course of two weeks, we have safely moved 2,200 students out of the residence halls, transitioned 100% of our classes online, made operational plans for every corner of campus, set up our staff and faculty to work remotely, and developed new ways to keep our students and you engaged with Georgia College. Though this feels like an ending, we aren't finished. We have a month left of instruction, student clubs have elections and membership drives, and we have a lot of people to honor for their achievements. We need all of our community to stick with us.
In the coming week, we'll be rolling out our campus-wide virtual engagement campaign, #GCUnited. Using Facebook, Instagram, Webex, Zoom, and lots of other great platforms, we'll be presenting virtual events for students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff to stay connected, no matter where we are.
E-mail will remain our channel for official business, so we'll be using social media to keep you engaged. If you haven't done so already, make sure you're following Georgia College Parent and Family Programs on Facebook. I'll be posting regularly and sharing campus content to offer you support, a little humor, and a place for you to connect with other GC families.
Let me close by saying "THANK YOU" for your patience and understanding over the last couple of weeks. Your e-mails and calls have been unfailingly gracious. Many of you have asked how we're doing, and it touches all of our hearts to know you're thinking of us when you have plenty to worry about yourselves.
We will get through this together, because that's who GC is. We have always known this community is exceptional, and we are certainly showing it now. Take care of yourselves and your families, stay well, and Go Bobcats!
