Ruiz Foods Partners with Educators & Community: Offering Mini-Grants & Scholarships
What is the Mini Grants for Teachers Program?
Ruiz 4 Kids understands that limited school budgets restrict teachers from purchasing materials for projects, activities, and even basic classroom needs. This program is designed to help teachers purchase the materials they need to help make their job possible and ease the financial burden many teachers carry.
Who can apply?
This program is available to educators teaching in a public K-12 school. In South Carolina, the school must be within a 50-mile radius of Florence.
How much are the grants worth?
Grants range up to $1,000.

Ruiz Announces Scholarship Program for Students
Ruiz 4 Kids will accept applications for the 2020 Scholarship Program beginning Monday, November 4.
Ruiz has a new online portal which will allow students to apply online eliminating hard copy and e-mail submissions.
Students will need to visit the website www.ruiz4kids.org and navigate to the Scholarships webpage for full details on criteria and the link to the application.
The deadline is February 20, 2020. The portal will not accept applications after this date.
Also new this year, is a dedicated email address Ruiz4KidsScholarship@ruizfoods.com for all scholarship related questions.Graduating high school seniors are encouraged to apply.

Presenters Share Southside Middle's Leadership Healthy School Activities
At this week's “Eat Smart Move More “ Leadership Summit held at the Florence Center, Southside Middle's Michelle Hayes and Monique Chmielecki (right) served as presenters providing statewide attendees information about Southside Middle's leadership over the past 14 years in generating healthy activities for students.
Liu Selected to Play in All-Star Tennis Classic
Wilson High School’s Rebecca Liu, has been selected to compete in the 2019 North-South All Star Girls' Tennis Classic. The event will take place November 15-16 at Myrtle Beach High School.
The South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association sponsors the event selecting the top twelve senior girls tennis players in the state. Liu is the only player in the Pee Dee region who received an invitation.
She is a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Wilson High School and has served as tennis team captain since 2017. For more information about the tennis program at Wilson, contact coaches Fred Davis and Whitney Timmons at 843-664-8440.
Students in Grades 9-12 to Receive Info About College Scholarship Opportunities
All Florence high school students are invited to learn more about the college admissions process on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16th from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Church Hill Community Center "THE ROC" located at 1117-A June Lane Florence in Florence.
This event is free and open to the public and the church hill community high school students.
Students will receive help completing college applications, locating scholarships and other financial aid, SAT/ACT prep and fee assistance, attend college tours/fairs and ensure students compile a portfolio of college enrollment information.

National Board Certified Teacher Renewal Workshops Offered
The SC National Board Network (SCNBN) is pleased to offer free National Board Renewal Workshops across the state. These sessions are designed for NBCTs completing their 7th-9th year of certification. Advanced registration is required.
In Florence, the renewal workshop will be held at John W. Moore Intermediate School located at 191 Westfield Drive on Tuesday, November 19 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.The workshop will focus on the renewal process including timelines for registration, entry completion and submission, and the current legislation governing renewal.

November is Native American Heritage Month
In November, the United States honors and celebrates the customs and legacy of Native Americans.
'Tis the Season for Pumpkins
Parents and students at John W. Moore Intermediate recently painted pumpkins for the Francis Marion Pumpkin Walk with this year's theme, Moore Lions at Pride Rock.
Moore students designed over 100 pumpkins with their parents and took first place in Best Theme and People's Choice. Moore pumpkins also won second place in Most Artistic and third place in Scariest Pumpkin all awarded by a vote by the public.
Students and parents spent an evening at Francis Marion viewing all the pumpkins decorated and carved by school and FMU clubs.
