Blue Ribbon Renewal!
This year was our 5 year anniversary of being awarded the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award, and we were up for the renewal of this prestigious honor. Thanks to your amazing support, our teachers' tireless effort, and our students' hard work, we will be awarded the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award again at the National Conference in December. A special thanks also goes out to Representative Ritchie Whorton for financing the renewal process. Thank you to all of our stakeholders who continually go above and beyond to make Owens Cross Roads such a special place!!
Owens Cross Roads Fun Run
The Owens Cross Roads Fun Run includes all K-6 students in a fun, team building, fitness event while helping our school raise funds during the two week program and ending with a Fun Run! Thanks to Owens Cross Roads United Methodist Church, all students will be given a Boosterthon shirt to wear during the Fun Run. Students will receive their shirts the morning of the Fun Run.
This year, our entire school is raising funds to go towards new playground equipment and a digital marquee! Our goal is to raise $5,000 and we need YOUR help!
Ask your child about the BIG WORLD RECESS Character Play of the day! This year’s character theme is BIG WORLD RECESS, a global fitness theme all about playing with more character. Watch the fun videos with your child on funrun.com.
Come to the Owens Cross Roads Fun Run on 11/20/2015! All students in Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to participate, regardless of financial participation. Remember, students will be running 30-35 laps, and we would love for you to come out and cheer. Thank you for supporting our school. We hope to see you Friday at the Owens Cross Roads Fun Run! The Fun Run will either be held outside or in the gym, depending on the weather and temperature.
Approximate times are as follows:
5th-6th- 11:00-12:00
K-1st- 12:00-1:00
2nd-4th- 1:00-2:00
Title 1
Owens Cross Roads School is a Title 1 school, which means that we receive funding from the federal government to help us purchase school supplies and resources. Being a Title 1 school gives our community several benefits, such as:
- Providing the Ron Clark Essential 55 workbooks for all new families to Owens Cross Roads School
- Providing a book each month for students zoned for Owens Cross Roads School from birth through Pre-K through the Imagination Library program https://usa.imaginationlibrary.com/register_my_child.php?gclid=COrg_8rMxMcCFdccgQodFMMDaw#.VdyPtvlVhHw
- Tutors for students struggling academically
- A math coach
- School supplies and technology
Parents are encouraged to be part of the process in giving input for the school year and for how Title 1 funds are spent.
Finally, the Alabama Continuous Improvement Plan contains both information about the school as well as our goals for the current school year. This "ACIP" will be available online, in the office, and in the library after November 30th.
Family Matters- Math and Charlie Brown
Our first Family Matters will be held December 14th, at 6:30 p.m. School-age kiddos will watch A Charlie Brown Christmas while parents will be given strategies to help their children with math homework.
