National Month of Gratitude!
Express Your Gratitude!
November is the National Month of Gratitude, a time to celebrate and give thanks! We want to tell our HSTs or Case Managers how grateful we are for them! Create a card, poster, or even a short video telling your HST or Case manager how grateful we are for them and their support! If you have created a card or poster please take a picture of it so we can share it out!
Please upload the picture by November 17th so we can create a fun video for our staff to watch. Upload your pictures here.
Celebrate Gratitude!
- Start a gratitude journal. Write about someone or something you’re thankful for every day.
- Share your gratitude with others. Letting someone know you’re grateful for their care, service, or friendship often lifts their spirits or lifts a burden.
- Show your appreciation by giving back to your community, neighborhood, or favorite organization.
- Write letters of thanks. Handwritten letters and notes are simple and meaningful ways to give thanks to the people in your life.

Student Support/Interventions
Many students and teachers welcome the holiday season and the break it brings from instruction, testing, and homework after a busy fall. But the holidays can also bring anxiety and stress. Students feel the pressure just as much as adults, and some do not feel comfort and joy during the holidays.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) can support students and teachers alike through the holidays and the long winter break.
Please remember that the following website can be shared with all South Schools Teachers, Staff, Students, and Families.

We invite students to bring paper and crayons to class on Monday, December 6th from 10:00-10:45am.

Testing
Universal Tools and Designated supports spotlight: Tools that are available to help your child on the upcoming CAASPP test. CAASPP testing is the statewide assessment given to all public school students. Subjects assessed are Math and ELA to students in grades 3-8 and grade 11 and Science in grades 5, 8 and once in high school.
Test taking tip from:
https://www.educationcorner.com/multiple-choice-tests.html
Use the process of elimination.
Using the process of elimination, cross out all the answers you know are incorrect, then focus on the remaining answers. Not only does this strategy save time, it greatly increases your likelihood of selecting the correct answer.
The CAASPP offers the Strikethrough tool to all students, they can use it to eliminate the answers they know are incorrect. Here is a video showing the strikethrough tool in action.
Strikethrough Video
Can be used in multiple-choice questions to cross out answer options you know for sure are not correct.

What to Do when your Child Hates Writing
Does your kid hate to write?
After all, some kids love to write. Some kids hate to write. And then there are those kids who loathe writing with a passion. You bribe, threaten, and beg. Nothing works.
So What Do You Do When Your Child Hates Writing?
The first thing not to do is give up in despair! Instead, start breaking down assignments into smaller parts. And use these 5 tips to help your child develop the skill of writing.
Separate Writing From Your Content Subjects
It’s tempting to require writing from your kid in all areas. A paragraph about history. A paragraph on science. And that’s in addition to your language arts lessons!
When your child hates writing, it’s too much. They’re going to fight you every step of the way and hate homeschooling.
So back off. Leave the formal writing practice to your writing lessons when your child hates writing.

The Virtual Compassion Corner
Attention high school parents and students, Cabrillo Point Academy is excited to announce a new mental wellness program for high school students (grades 9-12), The Virtual Compassion Corner.
The Virtual Compassion Corner is designed for high school students to self refer for mental health support when they are having a difficult time in their life. They can meet with a counselor or a school psychologist virtually during school hours to discuss current life situations that may be impacting their overall functioning.
Students can complete the Virtual Compassion Corner form with the link here to notify a counselor they are seeking help. Once the form is submitted, the student receives a confirmation notice and email that contain an appointment link. They can choose to set up a 20 minute phone call or zoom meeting during school hours. If the student does not sign up immediately, we will reach out to the student directly and check in.

Hi, I am a Mother of 4 sons, and grandma of 3 little ones. I learned about homeschooling about 5 years ago and I loved the whole concept. I homeschooled my youngest son and he loved it! I wish I had known this way of teaching when my other sons were little. I love helping families to thrive, and be successful! I am here to help you in any way I can.
