Principals Corner

Hello Grant Families,

We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and break!

For the month of December and it actually starts when we return on November 29, we are going to have a Spirit Month for staff and students that include jeans and/or sweat depending on what students want to wear that including a spirit wear a top (the December is JeanEMBER PDF below gives you all the details). This is free and 100% optional. We wanted to have some fun and spread joy throughout the month of December.

December's Community with Character element is empathy. Empathy is the ability to emotionally understand what other people feel, see things from their point of view, and imagine yourself in their place. Essentially, it is putting yourself in someone else's position and feeling what they are feeling. Our teachers weave this into their morning meetings or circle time daily. It truly helps our students understand what others may be going through.

It is beginning to get cold outside and our students take 2 recesses a day. We go outside unless the temperature is 15 degrees or below. That is our LPS district policy and we use Accuweather to determine this. So be sure to dress your child accordingly to the temperature each day. We want our kids to be able to go outside and blow off energy yet be warm too.

It's another big football game between Ohio State and Michigan this weekend. You all saw the outcome of the MSU vs. OSU game last weekend, it was not pretty for you Sparty fans. I was very proud of our Buckeyes! I had a friend visit me this week in my office as I am quite outnumbered again! anyways, it made for a fun week at Grant for our students seeing all the UM stuff displayed in our building. I had many students ask me, "Mrs. Mazzoni what does OSU stand for," it gave me many laughs. Thanks, Ms. Mulketin for all the UM Displays and Blowups.

Please continue to check the website for bus cancellations each week. It can be found under the announcement section for each week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Attention all parents or relatives who pick up your child at Grant Elementary at the end of each day. Please stay in your vehicles and/or outside our playground area if you come from the back of our building. We want to ensure the safety of all students and staff. All of our students and staff do not know every parent/guardian at Grant Elementary. Again, we appreciate each and every one of you who are following these guidelines. You may arrive at 3:50-4:00 p.m. to get your child(ren). It is greatly appreciated! Your School Safety Principal, Mrs. Mazzoni

Blessings in a Backpack-Livonia

Dear Parent,

Blessings in a Backpack-Livonia is an all-volunteer program designed to provide students who are in need, with enough food for three meals a day during the weekends. If you participate in this program, your child will receive a bag at the end of every week of school (Thursday or Friday), filled with non-perishable food for the weekend. There is no cost to you for participating in this program. No further information is required. Your information will not be shared. If you would like to have your child participate in this program, fill out and submit the form using the link below as soon as possible. We are requesting your name and email address so that a confirmation of registration will be emailed to you.

If your child participated in the program last year we do need a new enrollment form for this school year.

Currently, we are providing prepackaged bags so we are unable to customize for allergies or religious dietary needs. We apologize for any inconvenience.

****You will need to complete a separate form for each child that you wish to enroll.****

Thanksgiving Support

To our Grant Community,

It has definitely been a tough couple of years with the pandemic. I know that many of us have been hit financially and could use a little support to get through. We have a local organization that reached out to help some of our families for Thanksgiving this year and/or during the winter holiday season. If you could use some additional support during the holidays, please send me an email so we can help you out! It is all confidential:

Thank you and hope we can make your holidays a little easier.
