Seniors
I've been looking through Naviance lately for Seniors who have no plans. If this is you, please take time to make an appointment with me to discuss your future. You all MUST have some kind of plan before you graduate. You may receive a summons to my office to discuss this if you don't make an appointment.
Read your email DAILY! If you have already applied to college then CHECK you COLLEGE PORTALS. This is the time when colleges will be asking you for more information if they need it. The requests usually include a deadline and if you don't meet the deadline, they might remove your application from the applicant pool.
Juniors
If you are planning on applying to college next year, now is a good time to start making a list of what those colleges might be. There are many tools out there to help you research colleges. Corsava is a free tool that you can use to sort and rate your preferences in a way that will help you figure out what you want (and don’t want) from your college experience. It's a fun interactive tool to help you get started. Take 15-20 minutes to get started with this tool and start building your college list.
Sophomores
Do you ever think about what you might like to do as a career? It may seem early to start thinking about this, but it's not too early to figure out what values are important to you. This can help you decide what kind of career pathway to follow. The College Essay Guy has some good exercises to help you figure out what is important to you. Check out his "Values Exercise". It's a brainstorming exercise that only takes 5-10 minutes of your time. You might be surprised at what you learn.

Information Security Analyst
There are many types of Security Analysts. Here are a few that come to mind: Network Security Analyst, Cyber Security Analyst, Cloud Security Analyst. How are these similar and different? They are similar in that they all protect information. Where that information resides and how it can be harmed point to the differences.
A network security analyst is an individual who protects a company’s technology from cybersecurity risks. You will proactively analyze a company’s hardware applications, software programs, phone lines, and any other resources with an online connection. By consulting with company executives and working alongside technology teams, you’ll help to fortify a company’s online presence.
Cloud security analysts are involved in protecting the networks, servers, applications and data that make up a cloud computing ecosystem. Because a single cloud service supports multiple organizations, a security breach can have drastic consequences, potentially compromising millions of records.
The responsibility for securing the cloud lies with both the providers and clients using their resources. The former must protect the data and infrastructure, while clients must use secure methods like strong passwords and multifactor authentication — the same methods needed to protect their own private networks — to access their data. The majority of cyberattacks are caused by human error from non-IT employees, so cloud security professionals sometimes create or provide training to ensure their customers and coworkers use the latest best practices to minimize the possibility of accidental breaches.
Cybersecurity analysts are involved in protecting internet-connected devices, such as computers, mobile and electronic devices, servers, networks, and data, from cyberattacks. In other words, cybersecurity prevents unauthorized access to data centers and computerized systems to ensure the confidentiality of information.
