Educator and First Responder Partnership Breakfast
Local first responders and BSD administrators gathered at the Administration Offices on April 5, 2018 for the Educator and First Responder Partnership Breakfast.
Participants heard an update on the state-wide SafeOregon Tipline from Dominique Millette from the Oregon State Police. Leslie Rodgers, Beaverton School District Teacher on Special Assignment, presented an overview of the District’s Threat Assessment process.
BSD has a comprehensive Student Threat Assessment process for identifying and responding to students at risk of engaging in violent behavior based on recommendations put forth by the FBI to prevent school violence. Through staff training and close partnerships with law enforcement and community agencies, BSD is committed to providing supportive interventions to students of concern and their families in order to ensure the safety of our school communities.
Following the overview, participants worked through a threat assessment tabletop exercise and discussion facilitated by Christy Batsell, Principal, Terra Linda Elementary School, Deputy Holly Greener, SRO, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Dustin Hass, School Psychologist, Southridge High School, Robin Kobrowski, Principal Springville K-8, Sgt. Kevin McDonald, Beaverton Police Department, Wendy Rider, Assistant Principal, Aloha High School, Officer Greg Schapp, SRO, Beaverton Police Department, and Jodi Sherwood, Project Manager, SafeOregon Tipline/Oregon State Police.

Take the Annual Parent Survey
Please take a few moments to complete the BSD Annual Parent Survey during the month of April! The survey helps us to evaluate our progress in educating your child(ren) and planning for the future. Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community feels welcomed, valued, and informed, so it is important for all parents/guardians to complete the survey. The survey data will be summarized so that each person who answers will remain anonymous. Please take the survey considering only one child. You may take the survey again if you have children attending more than one school.
A link to the 2018 Annual Parent Survey was sent to all valid parent email addresses via SchoolMessenger on Monday, April 2, 2018. The deadline to participate is Friday, April 20, 2018. You can view a copy of the survey in both English and Spanish on the Research & Reports webpage.
Early Release in Action: How to stay calm when students are in crisis
Elementary teachers, counselors and instructional assistants gathered at Vose Elementary School on early release Wednesday for a professional development course on “How to stay calm when students are in crisis” offered by District Social Workers, Sara Doig, Neha Hertzog, and Kaitlyn Hashek.
Through this course, elementary teachers learned to:
- Understand the impact of mental health on students
- Identify the signs of three common mental/behavioral health conditions
- Learn de-escalation strategies
Participants explored ways to address three common mental/behavioral health concerns, anxiety, depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They engaged in activities geared toward developing intervention strategies and how to team with students to meet their needs.
THPRD Summer Registration begins April 21
The official start of summer may still be a couple months away, but if you’re within the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, planning for it begins now.
Online and phone registration for THPRD summer classes, camps and activities will be open to in-district residents starting Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Class descriptions and schedules, along with registration instructions and forms, are in THPRD’s 2018 summer activities guide. The book was mailed in late March to each household within park district boundaries and is available online at www.thprd.org. Extra printed copies are at THPRD centers, the Administration Office, and certain community sites, including Beaverton-area libraries.
Patrons registering by computer for the first time must establish an online account in advance at http://www.thprd.org/activities. Those registering by phone should call 503-439-9400 April 21-24 (after April 24, call any park district center or the Administration Office at 503-645-6433). THPRD will again offer, on a limited basis, Spanish language assistance during phone-in registration for classes and programs.
For residents living outside the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, online and phone registration will begin April 23, 2018 at 8:00 a.m.; registration in person or by mail begins the following day.
