2022-2023 School Year -- Home of the Raptors

Hello Valor Parents and Families! April 14, 2023

Happy April and we hope all is well! The return from spring break has not yet brought the warmer weather, but hopefully it'll be here soon. Here's another Newsletter edition so we can share about the events and happenings here at Valor.

As always, if you have questions or if we could help you with anything, please connect with us.

Important Dates for March and April

Big picture

Spring Conferences - Thank You! And Quarter 4 Begins

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Spring parent conferences. Our conferences were a great time to connect with parents, to learn about student growth, and to find out about academic performance. If you were unable to attend the conference, we mailed home the progress reports to you.

Today marks the end of the Quarter 3. Following the Monday teacher work day, on Tuesday, April 17, we begin the Quarter 4, which is our final one of the school year.

The Next Family Movie Night - May 19

We had a nice turnout of students and families for our Movie Night in March. Coming up on May 19, we will host our second Movie Night. This time we'll be showing Coco with the audio in Spanish and subtitles in English. Family Movie Night is open to students, parents, siblings (if accompanied by a Valor parent), and our Valor staff.

Valor Music Concert and the Woodburn District Music Festival

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Valor Winter Concert and the WSD Music Festival recently. It was such a pleasure to listen to our students perform and see their growth. It was also incredible to see the progression from elementary to middle school and then the high school years.

Spring Sports

Track season has begun with mostly away meets to start the season. On May 4 we'll host our home track meet at Woodburn High School. This is the final sports season of this school year.

State Testing Continues

Our students are in the middle of various State Assessments. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their academic growth since last year. Here are the remaining dates.

  • Continuing - English Language Arts test for 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders
  • Starting May 9 - Math test for 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders
  • Make up tests for anyone absent will be ongoing

Outdoor School Reminder

In May, each grade level will have three days of Outdoor School, which will be held during our regular school hours at Champoeg State Park. Students will arrive at Valor at their regular time those days, and we'll have field trip buses taking them and a third of our staff to the Park and then returning to Valor prior to dismissal.

This is an Exciting Opportunity: Due to the Pandemic, over the past two years our current 7th and 8th graders missed out on Outdoor School. So no one misses out on this unforgettable experience, this year we're making arrangements for every student to be able to participate in Outdoor School. We'll provide more information as it approaches, but here are the dates.

  • May 16-18: 7th Graders at Outdoor School
  • May 19-23 (3 school days): 8th Graders at Outdoor School
  • May 24-26: 6th Graders at Outdoor School

WSD Parent – Student Handbook Link

The Woodburn School District has a Parent - Student Handbook that provides information on rules, policies, and expectations at all schools in the District. We provided these to everyone at parent conferences and also mailed them home to those who were unable to attend conferences. Additionally, here you can access a digital version of the handbook.
