Happy November Break
I hope that you take a moment or two next week to unplug and enjoy those around you. I'd like to take a moment to share my gratitude for you and your one-of-a-kind students. While this has not been and ideal situation for most, I have watched you and your kids make the best of these circumstances. It is the most difficult of situations that will either bring a community together, or separate it. Watching you on Zoom, hearing your stories, reading your emails... I realize just how much strength the Lietz community holds, and I am honored to be a part of it in this way.
Please be safe and spend lots and lots of quality time together.

Superintendent Coleman's Update Report on the Reopening of Schools
On Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that Santa Clara County and much of the state would move back to the Widespread (Purple) tier, the most restrictive tier in the CA Blueprint. With case numbers rising in the county, USD will pause our reopening timeline until we enter the Red tier in order to reevaluate plans in alignment with community data, and revised rules and regulations. Schools will continue to plan and prepare for moving to stage three and beyond of USD’s reopening plan and will use this time to refine schedules and safety procedures at each of our sites.
Following a summary of the Governor’s announcement, Superintendent Coleman presented an update on the Reopening of Schools highlighting survey and stakeholder input. Assistant Superintendents Rita Sohal and Steve Burrell shared updates around health and safety, noting classroom distancing procedures, ventilation, positive case protocols, and the district’s recent partnership with Curative to provide onsite COVID-19 screenings onsite. Associate Superintendent Andrew Schwab outlined considerations in development of hybrid schedules and shared the proposed elementary and middle school in-person hybrid schedules for stages 3-5. You can view the presentation here.
Given the changing nature of the situation inside and outside our community, USD will continue to update the community on how these changes will affect our schools and our preparations for stages 3-5. Once we get closer to moving into Stage 3 of our reopening plan, principals will be distributing surveys to families on their interest in returning to our school campuses for in-person learning.
