LEA News at Free State

Jane Rock Wins $100 Mini-Grant!

Free State CTE teacher Jane Rock was one of 7 teachers across the district who won a Mini Grant from LEA at the last building rep meeting. Her grant application was for additional blood pressure cuffs for her Pre-Med classes.

Prairie Fire Uniserv

April 18-19 Representative Assembly in Topeka


LEA is currently seeking donations for our coffee themed basket to be auctioned off at the RA in Topeka. LEA members have already donated a Keurig machine and a 1 lb. jar of local honey. The proceeds benefit the KNEA Political Action Committee.


If you would like to donate, send your donations to Joyce Tallman at LMCMS via interschool mail by April 13. jtallman@usd497.org

Upcoming Events

Rally for Public Education

Game on For Kansas Schools is hosting a walk to Topeka and a rally in Lawrence at South Park on March 28 at 12 p.m. Come join the crowd and show your support for Public Education. Wear red and bring a friend (or 5).


Here is the tentative schedule for the whole Walk:

  • “Game On” will leave Merriam, KS on Friday morning, March 27 and walk to Eudora
  • On Saturday, Leave Eudora and walk to Lawrence
  • Be in Lawrence by about 12 pm for the Rally at South Park, then finish walking to west end of Lawrence
  • On Sunday, Leave Lawrence and walk to Topeka’s East edge
  • Monday will be the final short portion to the Capitol and there will be a press conference inside the Capitol.
  • There will be more details on this later, but there is a HIGH need for as many people as possible to attend. This is where we need to reach out to parents or retired teachers who may not be working, but could attend this important event.
